Has anyone here actually read it?
I just finished it and I'm pretty shocked by how genuinely entertaining and insightful it was.

The actual "manifesto" part is only the first chapter, but it's really lucid and frightful. Like, I get it now. I get the whole "leftist nihilism" thing that these guys represent. The world is so fucking fucked.

The rest is more-or-less (usually less) funny riffing on anything political to the right of Stalin. None of it is particularly interesting besides the chapter where they shit on liberals, and the last two chapters were outright boring. Feels like they ran out of steam and just kept trying to capture the zeitgeist despite being culturally disconnected from the nation they satirize. This is especially apparent in the chapter on conservatism.
Still, the little taxonomies were fun.

I'm a student at a fairly competitive university. We're doing book presentations next week, and most people are doing the usual stuff like Ayn Rand or Dostoeyvsky. I think I will do pic related and talk about how capitalism is ruining our lives or I'll use Gender Trouble and talk about trans issues. There's no more being comfortable for white ppl.

Soo I was at Ihop discussing the ending of the new Avengers: Endgame movie when pic came up after I mentioned one of the jokes in it about cynical hollywood capeshit movies. One of my friends said that it's classist of me to assume that content directed at the lowest common denominator is 'bad', and that I should really do the homework and look at why what I think is high culture is 'good' since it usually amounts to white supremacy, cissupremacy, and heteronormativity. Do you think she's right? I didn't particularly enjoy the movie but I do think popular culture is bad, but I guess I should do the work and change what I think so as to be more inclusive.

I brought up pic with a couple of my lefty friends at my DSA dnd group and they said that it's problematic that I'm reading this since there aren't any poc hosts & the humour can get pretty irony-bro. They said that I'm not 'doing the homework' to understand why a poc or not-cis person wouldn't like this kind of stuff. What is 'doing the homework' in this context? How do you 'do the homework'?

I tried to like this, I really did, but the hosts seem to be too focused on making the audience laugh at bro humour and not enough on socialist theory. They also don't pay much attention to poc voices in socialism, which is what other socialest outlets have been doing for years now. Any reccomendations for books that do better?

Ok, I LOVED this. Any more books like this that explain lefty politics but not in a super academic way? Bonus points if it's irreverant.

Life feels blank lately. I'm worse than an observer, I don't understand what goes on around me .
I thought that active politics might bring me back to life but as I stated I don't understand anything.
I don't know what a libertarian is, or a republican or leftist or wathever .
Is there a book that will direct me on the right track?

Or podcast, youtube, site, wathever...
