>imagine buying ANY amazon hardware during your one and only time on this precious earth
the absolute state of amazon toddlers

>we coped so harrd, and got so faar but in theee end it didnt even matturrrr
We told you, we told you almost every single thread. Everytime I tried to make the better alternative choice more obvious to you but you were completely resistant to any changes and told me I base my personality around my choice of ereader brand. But I just tried to explain that there are better alternatives to this jew company, but you just pointed to calibres based conversion to proprietary niglet format.
They are raping lord of the rings as we speak and you absolute normos still throw money in front of this demons feet. Even nu/g/ sees no problem with getting "based proprietary amazon devices, heck yes."
You get what you fucking deserve.

E-ink is a far better reading experience. Any will do but if you have the extra dosh get a paperwhite as it's a serious step up from the base model. You'll have to get calibre and learn to use it but it's not hard.

yes, but try getting your epubs from Mobilism.org or irc. B-ok.cc or zlibrary or libgen and all that public shit usually have inferior versions with some conversion errors. Depending on what you read, it might be 1 in every 10 ebooks or 5 out of 10.
If you're already reading through some shady Google Play app, you're probably reading ebooks of a similar quality anyway.

Most of the ebooks I get are ripped from the retail stores/libraries, and I used to download retail mobis or azw3, or converted from epub. Never had an issue in close to 10 years until I downloaded a retail AZW3 that had my Kindle on a very scary crash/reboot loop.
Kindles don't seem to support 3-tier TOCs no matter if it's MOBI or AZW3 and I noticed no performance improvement, so I just do it out of habit I guess.

There's also the off chance I might mail an ebook to my Kindle or a to a friend's and AZW3 is not supported.

A friend of mine lend me his Kobo because I wanted to try it.
I followed pic related (a guide someone posted here) and I tried to convert a couple of books in order to read them on the Kobo.
One was full of images and was all messed up, the other had text put in the middle of the page and was so small I couldn't read it.
Screw e-books, just save some money and buy books, don't put your free time in tech companies hands.

Kindle for 90 / 110 usd (inobtrusive ads, you can get removed by begging Amazon / no ads), Paperwhite for 120 / 150 (ads / no ads). The backlight on the PW is very useful.

About 2/3 of the ebooks you'll find online will be in EPUB. If you're too lazy or don't want to bother in converting them to the appropriate format (with Calibre, other softwares or websites) check Kobo which have native EPUB support. They sell for almost the same money.

Enter the Kobo fags.

>I was wondering why my EPUB to mobi conversions are often riddled with typos and weird substitutions for letters.
This is almost impossible unless the source file has a weird encoding (most just use utf-8). I don't notice anything weird on that text you posted.
An EPUB is basically a zip file full of HTML and CSS code. Converting it to MOBI is just "copy pasting" all that text and zipping it into Amazon's proprietary version of EPUB (mobi, azw3). Sure you didn't mean from PDF?

Fiddling with the Do not add Detected Chapters and Do not add Table of Contents might produce a better TOC.

Sounds weird. Have you tried with more than 1 book?
You could try pic related.
Or do AZW3 -> MOBI -> (check results: if OK) -> EPUB.

>average file size
From 500 KB to 5 MB. Most are around 1 MB. I have like 150 books on my 2 GB Kindle and it's only using 50% of the storage. Still, you don't want to load 1000 ebooks on it for a few reasons. Number one, you are not going to read 1000 books. Second one is it makes the device feel a little sluggish (probably because it's basic hardware trying to index hundreds of thousands of pages).
>Amazon Kindle Basic (7th Gen)
I'd get the Paperwhite just for the backlight desu. Battery lasts a little less but it's pretty useful for commuting or traveling and it makes text stand out a little more when reading by lamplight.
>epub
Kindles don't support epub natively. There's some autists who boot it up with a different OS or something but after 8 years of using different Kindles, I've never bothered with it.
You need to download mobi or azw (I'm not sure if old gens support azw) or convert it yourself. There are online free epub2mobi converters or you can do what everyone does and download Calibre which is a nice way to manage your library. Pic related is only needed if you are autistic about margins, spacing and table of contents.

What the fuck are you talking about?
I've OCR'd at least a dozen books, edited them with MS Word, transferred to Sigil (Epub), then converted to MOBI.
I've also converted hundreds of EPUBs to MOBI and it hardly ever fails.

Things that don't convert properly:
- Custom fonts embedded in the EPUB. Kindle's just don't display them, not sure how it works with a Kobo or a Nook.
- ToCs with more than 2 levels (actually a Kindle limitation).

They come in different formats. Most are retail versions of EPUB, but there are some MOBI/AZW3 too. A minority are PDFs.
