I see what you mean. I am interested in "enlightenment" (whatever that is) and perhaps reaching it through meditation, but I am also worried about what that would do to me and the sort of life I would naturally leave. I actually had the thought some time ago, after watching someone talk on youtube about breakthroughts they've had in their meditation practice, that perhaps "enlightenment" just makes people retarded. it's sort of a joke, but sort of not. I'm not really sure what it does and whether I would ultimately want to experience it.

did you interpret matthies's death as jas's prayers being answered or just a coincidence? is god real is the world of the book?
