Thanks to whoever posted this as a recommendation in one of these threads, I really loved it.
Anything other by Pohl worth reading, Heechee series or otherwise?

why did they pay huge royalties to people who made discoveries but nothing to those who made a new trip but came up empty,
instead of a more equal arrangement?
why didn't they use AI? surely if they have a talking psychiatrist robot they can at the very least have one that will send the ship there and back and check how long the journey takes
