I fucking hate this. We are western, our literary canon is western, and the vast majority of our great works were written by white men as a result. What do they expect? That I learn a non European language and read another cultures canon?

What are some ways to learn from an author's prose aside from just reading their writing?

Jotting down quotes that you think are particularly nice, maybe?

I remember a while ago I heard that some people literally rewrote entire books by hand in the hopes of improving their prose. Does this help or is it just autistic?
