Very half baked ideas rn, haven't really put in the time to developing this into a full fledged concept but fuck it maybe this'll help.
Main themes would revolve around subverting standard Young Adult Novel tropes. Central theme is something along the lines of "The world revolves around a cycle of usage; using ideas, words, people.
Everything serves everything else; is it possible to break this cycle? Should it be broken? Is true selflessness real?
General Story Ideas:
>Protag is nondescript kid, generic facial features and average IQ, moved away from his family almost right after high school out to the middle of bumfuck nowhere, small town in Utah(? Subject to change I guess)
>Moved with the intent of starting fresh, feels he made a lot of bad choices growing up and thinks some fresh air will help him think of something to do with his life
>Years later he is in his early 20s, the most he's accomplished is living in a dingy apartment and working a shitty part time job in a convenience store
>Has made no real friends, most interaction he gets is with shit customers and fellow employees
>When story begins he's essentially on the verge of giving up on this attempt at a new life, thinking about going back to his family
>Before he gets the chance to make a real decision, life seems to push him into another, completely unexpected direction
>Through some sequence of events he discovers the world is more fantastical than he ever assumed it would be; he becomes involved in a secret war of massive scale, yet seemingly hidden to the human eye; two species of inhuman origin have been using the planet as their involuntary battleground, operating several dimensions above the one most humans can perceive.
