This is pretty much how I am. Last MMO I played was Dragon Nest and I loved it because I could pretty much do everything solo, then go into the PVP arena with my Paladin and juggle away entire healthbars from people while simultaneously being the tankiest class in the game.

I miss Dragon Nest.

MMOs can be awesome as fuck though, sadly I missed the TERA launch. Was really looking forward to it and already playing beta as well, elins are simply the most glorious thing in any mmo ever. Once I have a halfway decent desktop I'll definitely give it a shot, hopefully it won't be dead by then.

MMOs are a horrible genre. It's just fucked up in oh so many ways.

I do manage to enjoy Secret world though, it has a pretty enjoyable story and a nice atmosphere. The writing is pretty good and quirky. All of that combined makes a pretty good modern fantasy game that plays well on all the possible magic/conspiracy/crazy cliche.

I'm about to be done with all the content though.

Hurts storytelling and the world, usually.
The economic aspect doesn't seem to really matter much, although there is so much potential. Eve online sounds like the only game where cash REALLY matters and is involved into every aspect of the game or so.

MMOs never make an effort beyond fighting and story(oh and GRAPHIX[even worse because it doesn't always mean realism, it could mean a plea to anime fans too]) nowadays. You'd think they'd make great advances in, say, letting you interact with the environment like the ability to properly sit on anything or lean on anything. Even normal RPGs seem like they haven't heard the word "minigame" anymore.

The fact that there are mmos still being made with all gender locked classes or tiny amounts of customization and no different clothes is disturbing. It's like the end result of this march towards equality and sameness, the same kind of things that prevent you from being able to loot anything that falls to the ground or attack other people's monsters nowadays.

It's okay to tell a story in your MMO, but trying to make YOU seem the one and only hero kind of takes away from the feeling of making a difference, since everyone who's ever played is also the one and only hero. I think the best games have rich lore to draw from so that they don't just have to toss up a blurb about the world and then a bunch of story you really don't care about. RO had Norse myths and a Korean Komic. Mabinogi had Cletic myths and Welsh stories, WoW had Warcraft. Anything else that tried to do this generally took some well known franchise and made some tangentially related MMO about it. (I didn't play UO so I can't speak about which it was.)

Another thing that pains me is when they come up with a good concept but don't expand on it. Like those lobby fighting mmos. They usually have some world to wander in, but why does it have to be so small? Anything that's not the focus of the game gets shafted. I don't care if the game is about fishing, let us have some resort where we can go swimming and play air hockey or something.
