>The identity of Nippon Ichi Software’s Project: D was revealed to be Disgaea D2 during a Dengeki 20th anniversary stage event in Chiba this weekend. It will launch at 7,140 yen for PlayStation 3 on March 20, 2013 in Japan.

>Shogo Kozakai will serve as the game’s producer. Its story is centered around characters Laharl, Etna, and Flonne. Because it’s the series’ 10th anniversary, they wanted to bring back Laharl, explained Kozakai, as he is its origin. Disgaea D2 is a sequel to Laharl’s story.

You don't really need to know what happened, but there are recurring characters in post-game. I'm not sure about the remakes, but I would definitely play them in order. Each game improves in gameplay a lot, so it's hard to go back to the older game.

While gameplay improves, story and characters go downhill, although still worth playing. And a lot of Disgaea is the charm. I would really advise playing them in order.

I think 4 was actually a pretty decent story, especially when compared to 3. I had to force myself to finish the 3 story to get to post-game. 1 had the best story though in my opinion, so I'm looking forward to this sequel.

Yeah, 4 was a good step upwards from 3. Personally, I never understood what people saw in 1. Literally the only good character was Etna, and only because of the flat-selfish-demon-loli combination.

I couldn't go back to 1-3 now because of the gameplay, though. 4 really did have some great improvements here that made the grinding part more bearable.

I really liked Laharl, and Flonne is my favourite Disgaea. I liked Etna too in 1, but I think NIS really dropped the ball with her cameos in the later games. She went from being a haughty demon to what seems like an insecure girl that attracts flat chest jokes every 4 lines. As far as I can remember she never got any real recurring roles either, while Flonne did.

I can't think of a console that would be more profitable for Disgaea, but correct me if I'm wrong. Most Disgaea fans already own a PS3, 360 has nothing on PS3 in Japan, PSP comes with the same problems as releasing it for PC and to release it for Vita they'd be relying on Disgaea D2 to save the Vita from its current state.

Something similar happens in Makai Kingdom.
