If I remember right from reading about this ages ago, the system is kind of like (hopefully it's not a wrong game):

- You play a character that can permanently die.
- You get a bank in town to store stuff, if you manage to get back with extra itens.
- New characters after a death can equip themselves from your bank.

Hoping someone with some play experience can give a bit of insight on the game.

You will die horribly to everything ingame. Thief and Priest are considered mandatory in later dungeons, you need someone to take care of the undying undeads, someone who can heal, and someone who can do all the DPS on big enemies + check for traps.

You can offer scales to revive with better chances, scales are common drops from missions. There is a bank and you will use it lots, specially when you start crafting.

Just one, but you get 3 branches of whatever liking.

Alignment actually plays a major role, some skills get a synergy boost depending on alignment. It also restricts some classes, you can't be a Neutral Priest.

There's also stat requirements for each class, all of them just ask for 8 of an individual class though. Multiclassing is encouraged and actually advantages you.

Yes. Except explorable dungeon bosses. Those tend to have one instakill attack you need to dodge or neutralize with short buffs. It's kinda hard, cause ArenaNet went crazy with attack effects, so the boss glows brightly most of the time and you can have hard time reading its moves.

But open world bosses are horrible. You come, you attack and that's it.

Vindictus, Dragon Nest, and DFO all eliminated this in their own ways, and I liked every single game very much. They can start by incorporating more senses into your mmo experience. With screens, sight is kind of partial, with the goggles it can feel a bit more immersive. Hearing is easy enough. Honestly I'd like for them to introduce smell into an MMO. That really brings immersion into the game. Might be a little controversial but it will just go through the phases like "seeing on screen blood and gore" did. Taste would be implemented in a similar way. The last thing on the list would be the most important which is feeling, and you really have that as long as you keep controlling your character with your hands with a mouse/keyboard.

I didn't stay around long after the beta ended, but they decided to take it upon themselves to make their own skill changes and change the PVP scaling system, both of which naturally fucked up balance.

They removing the fucking reward chest from raid bosses so your only chance of getting orange-tier gear is from the boss's own low drop rates that were never intended to be the only source of loot.

Towns were basically dead too. They were full of people but nobody used general chat because there were no GMs to ban the spambots in every goddamn instance, and the only way to block them was to navigate like 3 menus and manually type in their name, which was pointless because there were usually multiple bots in each instance and they frequently cycled in new ones, and nobody talked in town at that point anyway.

I can't remember everything because it was many months ago, but it seems like there were also some more subtle tweaks they made arguably only to dick over the player and/or encourage using the cash shop, which was naturally far more expensive than the Korean equivalent as per all Nexon games.

In RO a guy with great armor and lots of high quality curatives can solo bosses. In RF, its possible for a party to never rely on healers and just chug potions, and the few classes that have heal abilities have them as a bonus, rather than the only thing they do.

I played Korean CBT3. Yeah, it was fun. Combat system is one of the best I've seen in any MMO and dungeons were plenty and varied.

Yeah, you can buy time and account from one Chinese website.

The MMO development cycle is quite long. Most MMOs released within the last few years were in development well before the recession. By the time the MMOs came out though, they were no longer relevant. Nobody is gonna pay monthly for a game that offers less than the competition.

None of those are "modern" except for PSO2. GW2 plays like reskinned GW1 and PSO2 almost plays the same as PSU and PSP2i with latest updates. There's actually been a serious decline in MMO quality for a while, even when they invent new things, and when they DO release good games, they're most likely not coming overseas yet to a proper company that doesn't region lock everything, it's seriously starting to piss me off.

I thought the game was great up until Molten Core. Depending on what you wanted to do, your options varied.

It wasn't until 40 mans that druids HAD to only heal. They could off tank and do damage and heal like the hybrid classes they were in 15 mans. Same thing with paladins.

Back when items weren't ridiculous, the game had some sort of balance. I don't really care about how the gear looked. I care that world pvp was fun and there was a sense of community.

Both of these things GW2 fucked up somehow.

I think that pisses me off the most in world pvp GW2, is how long it takes to get back to the action after you die. And it's not like it takes forever to die. You really only get one healing spell. After you walk back to the battle and it takes forever. There are no mounts.

Aside from that, a lot of the ideas used in GW2 are a double edged sword. I sort of like that each player doesn't spec to a certain role and can hold their own. At the same time, those roles in other games gave the games a sense of teamwork that GW2 cannot match.

This brings me to the second thing I mentioned. A sense of community. In GW2, you do group up with people for questing. You just hit the same mob and you both get credit. Makes questing easier, right? Yes, I sort of like it. But it's a double edged sword. It ruins the community. I used to group up with people a lot. I added them to friends and found them later. I talked with them. We don't do this in GW2. People do a lot of their questing in "overflow" servers which aren't full of the normal people.

I could go on, but GW2 tried new ideas I wanted to like, but it ended up being very boring.
