I lost on Okuu's final spellcard four times in a row just now.
Each time my heart was beating very fast because I thought i was going to do it, but each time I died just as the gravity ramps up and pulls you in really fast.

I think it's funny how each person adapts to each game differently. Some people say this game is easiest, another says another is easiest, it's interesting.

Does anyone else think 10-13 feel like they play completely differently from 6-8? After starting out with the earlier games, 10-13 don't really feel like Touhou to me. Something about them always feels really off, but I can't put my finger on it.

Well, it's a new engine, for one. I prefer the engine of the newer games, as something about them just feels... smoother.

They still feel like Touhou, though. You can play any of them with vsync removed just as well as you can play any of the others, though obviously the different games are different in terms of difficulty.

Well, people have different ways to get through the bullet patterns. Someone used to the games with very limited bombs might find MoF to be quite difficult, as they're not used to being able to bomb so much and MoF is actually pretty hard without using bombs. Someone who immediately takes advantage of the insane number of bombs in MoF, then struggles without them in other games, would remember MoF as being really easy.

Yeah, there is that. MoF to me is around middle of the road even if I beat it first. The patterns are actually quite difficult but the bombs offset that. Sanae also scares me since her patterns make me claustrophobic while other people think she's super easy.

I usually play Marisa, but I had the colliding into fairies and dying problem on EoSD and had to switch. Reimu is slow as fuck, but the tiny hitbox is godlike.

Trying to do a NDNB run of EoSD extra.
Whenever I make it past Pachy I am pretty much safe until "Catadioptric",which I can't seem do do consistently.
Then I'm safe again until the last 5 seconds or so of "And then will there be none" where I tend to lose my nerve.
"Ripples of 495 years" Isn't that hard, but I have been hit after Flandre hits 0 health four times in a row now.

What do you do on "Catadioptric" /jp/?
I usually go into the lower right corner and stay there but sometimes the bullets pretty much seal me in completely.

My turn to 1cc MoF after IN and PCB.
IN took me 20h, then I spent 22h on PCB and I see I cleared Mof after 6h.
It's indeed incredibly easy if you bomb everything, but still it feels weird to clear the game without knowing how to get half the cards.
Also, how come there is no result page with all the stats? Because it's so easy that it didn't deserve one?

Well, "arcade" difficulty, which can be placed bettwen normal and hard difficulty on a Touhou is a compromise to let normal players get and 1cc with a proper challenge. Obviously, second loops are a candy for those hardcore players who want more but the "arcade mentality" is still there given the resources the player has in order to survive.

I can chain 1-4 no problem, but 2-4 and just about everything in the second loop seems to kick me in the nuts with a steel toed boot due to the fact that I'm mashing the bomb button every three seconds.

C-S is real easy to loop with, if you don't bomb on that middle part of stage 5.

DOJ hypers are a bit of a double-edged sword, since yeah, they clear the screen of bullets once or twice, but right after the first clear until the second (which takes a while) the density greatly increases, and the rank stays a little higher than it was before you hypered even after it runs out.
Plus DDP gives you so many bombs, you've got about as many as bombs+hypers in DOJ.

Can you clear Normal? If not, clear that first. If you can, you should be able to locate problem spots and focus on fixing those. If its just an issue of pure dodging skill you should probably just play other games so you can see new stuff and not burn yourself out.

There's not a real secret to practicing other than you don't need to replay things you can do consistently. So if you can perfect stage 1 and 2 every time, just play stage 3 in practice mode. If the only thing that kills you in stage 2 is Cirno's opener then play stage 2 in practice, face that, and then skip the rest of the fight.

Also, watch replays if you can't figure out how to safely and consistently handle things. That's faster and oftentimes more helpful than just ramming your head into the game a billion times.

I didn't notice that post. I don't think they are fair to compare because they are patched away from how they would be normally played. Ultra patches have been known to be terribly unbalanced between games and change versions a lot. Furthermore, comparing Touhou and Cave games brings its own set of problems because they require much different skill sets.
