Would you hang out with Danny Choo, /jp/? He seems like a pretty cool guy.

>> No.9694117

Looks like the FF13 dude on the left.

>> No.9694130

I'd be all, "Sup d00d, I think it's epic as HELL the way you swindled those teenage nerds out of all their money, and you're not even Japanese OR Jewish!" and he'd be all, "Thanks man, have the latest copy of my OTACOOL® series. This one's filled with pictures of me pissing on fans. They paid me for the honour."
Then I'd high-five him and ride my motorcycle into the sunset.

Danny Chew is a lamebutt. Every person on /jp/ has more 'taku in their pinky finger than that nugget has in his whole body.

>> No.9694163

I don't like his face, it's very punchable.

Also,
>choo
does not sound like a japanese name to me.

Don't get me wrong, but I always strongly felt that Asians looked very punchable in general.

I could write poems about their faces folding around my fist.

All of /jp/ is jellymad because Choo is living their dream

>> No.9694388

You got me. My life's dreams and aspirations were to become Danny Choo.

>> No.9694414

>>9694384
I'm mad because he has no respect for my hobbies and is only using them for his own good, to get a lot of money and attention. If he found something else to become famous he'd use that instead of writing about Otaku stuff.
He doesn't even really like these things, don't you get it?
Also, my dream has nothing to do with becoming famous or socializing, my dream is to live a peaceful life in isolation and doing things that are fun for me.
"You jelly?" seems to be the only words you people can throw at those who do not approve of this guy.

You're projecting.

>> No.9694442

Danny Choo is to otaku culture what Hot Topic is to music. He reduces the substance of the subculture(s) into a commodifiable aesthetic.

What this reduction results in is the proliferation of people appropriating this ready-made image who have no actual appreciation for the culture its derived from. This is the same shit happened with Eastern religion/philosophy and the "New Age movement".

Please don't shitpost or act like a moron using an image of Toguro. He is one of my favorite villains, and you are defiling his name.

>> No.9694475

>>9694414
His life literally revolves around them. I think that involves at least some degree of dedication. Unless you're saying its impossible to both make money off something AND enjoy it.

Though the idea that Choo breaks a profit off his site is dubious. His parents are loaded, for most of its existence his site was just a really expensive chronicle of a trust fund lifestyle

>> No.9694479

>>9694414
I remember reading a blog post he made like 2 years ago about an anime series and all he said was, "I haven't watched this show but the characters are cute!" and then posts 30 screenshots

Whoever you're quoting would be right assuming these "otaku" actually like otaku culture.

Of course, they don't and the only thing they're attracted to is the image that Danny Choo presents to them. How else do you explain people buying "moe kana" cards or character figures created by a two-bit nobody? These people are not fans of otaku culture, they're fans of Danny Choo.

Fuck, just the fact that they knowingly label themselves "otaku" is enough to discredit them.

>> No.9694521

>they

I have no idea what group of people you're referring to

>> No.9694559

>>9694521
Do you think Danny Choo spontaneously got successful? No. He's supported by a legion of fans. If you read my post, "they" refers to these fans.

>> No.9694625

>>9694559
Danny Choo is supported primarily by his millionaire father. And how do you determine that all of Culture Japan's fans do not, in fact, watch any anime?

>> No.9694667

>>9694625
I have heard that Danny Choo's father has done little to support this venture if anything. I am not concluding that Culture Japan fans don't watch anime. I'm saying that they're buying into a misappropriated image of Japanese culture and defining themselves through it.

Look at the name of the site, and look at the focus. Look at what's being sold and promoted, and look at the culture it's derived from. Look at Culture Japan fans, and look at actual otaku.

What is your argument exactly; that watching anime implies otaku fandom? Does eating a a slice of supermarket cake make you a connoisseur of sweets?

>> No.9694676

>>9694479
That sounds a lot like me. I like the images that come from the shows way more than the shows themselves.

>> No.9694679

I used to frequent DCs website because some of his users liked to mod figures and I thought it would be cool to watch their process so I would end up checking so of Danny's main posts once in a while and the comments really surprised me.

They said stuff like "I not going to be an otaku forever" "I am an otaku but I have a life" and "I'm going to throw away my figures once I get married".

It makes it seem like they like it was just a fad to them or that they didn't understand what (anime) otaku meant.

I also hate that Danny started promoting Touhou and Vocaloid once they hit popularity in the west (He said he didn't like either but he still reviewed their figures)

>> No.9694687

Also when did the sites name become Culture Japan?Back when I used to visit in 2010 it was just DannyChoo on the logo.

>> No.9694737

he gets to hang out with people from a bunch of eroge brands so that's cool.

>> No.9694745

I like Culture Japan to see Japan pictures

>> No.9694875

Don't particularly like Danny Choo but he has some shit that I think is cool. Why hate on the moekana cards? Only reason I haven't bought them is because I'm a cheapskate and the internet is good enough of a study tool for me.

And yes, Otakushit has become a fad. Get over it.

>> No.9694990

I said it before and I'll say it again: Either you live for your
Otaku hobbies or you live a social life.
You cannot have both.

>> No.9695011

I'd probably hang out with him, but I don't know if it'd go any further than that since for all I know he could be a complete asshole in person. And if I don't like someone, I'm not going to hang out with them just because they are remotely popular.
