This is a known fake, the katana is the most powerful type of sword in the world and all the historians know this.

>> No.9382541

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Bastard Sword" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:

(One-Handed Exotic Weapon)
1d12 Damage
19-20 x4 Crit
+2 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon)
2d10 Damage
17-20 x4 Crit
+5 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don't you think?

tl;dr = Katanas need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.

First of all, knights didn't wear plate armour. They wore mail. 99.9% of the time.
Next, a Katana made from Japanese iron made into steel could not break through a European iron sword because Japan has incredibly poor quality of iron. That's why they had to make it into steel, not because they're "master smiths", but because they needed to out of necessity for it to cut through anything! Now if it were to take so long to make one katana, that's idiotic. You can't supply an army of troops with katanas that take years to produce, when someone can massively produce iron broad swords that are stronger in a short period of time in comparison. It's why Japan was almost never going to war with anybody but themselves because they couldn't fund giant invasions and lacked the technology to attack, say a Chinese kingdom at the time.
Overall the reason why we see "KATANA CUTS THROUGH EUROPEAN SWORD" videos, is because they use good quality imported iron from other areas of the globe and then put it through the testing. Now if you were to get authentic iron from Japan and authentic iron from Europe, once you forged the Japanese steel katana and the European iron broadsword you could see how the katana would be destroyed.

Samurais were only able to fight with katanas ,Dai-Katana ,bows and sometimes spear

Knights were able to fight with sword ,maces ,warhammer ,axes ,Spear and variants and Shield. They knew how to use bows and crossbows.

The sword in Europe isn't the center of weaponry.

If they made a massive Katana the size of a board sword then you could have the best of both worlds.

I also once saw a picture of the three basic kind of Katana.
One was the curved katana without a point for thusting that OP has a pic of.
The next katana was was a strait katana, like OP's but no curve, without a point for thrusting.
The 3rd one was a curved double edge Katana that was pointed at the end for thrusting. It was still a curved Katana, but was pointed at the end because of the double edge.

I could never find a picture again.......sad.....
I want a Katana made with the famous Seven Layer Technique....If I can become recognized for such a privilege.

Any Japanese or Gaijin cannot simply buy a Katana.
You must be recommended and recognized by a Kendo or Kenjutsu Dojo for accepting one. The Kendo or Kenjutsu Dojo speaks with the Katana craftsmen to make the recognized pupal a Katana, but that doesn't mean the craftsmen will make you one; they can still refuse. On top of that you will need Japanese Government approvel to remove or take the official Katana out of Japan.
Very hard to acquire one.

There made in China by sword smiths (or at least the durable folded ones).
