Is there ANY benefit of learning Japanese? I'm pretty young and going into the computer crowd workforce. So I was wondering if learning Japanese would benefit in any way?

>> No.931440

japanese is the new engrish

>> No.931441

No.

>> No.931448

>>931436
No. Its only good for reading untranslated vns.

>> No.931450

It's a pretty useless language.

>> No.931455

No matter how many times I see this picture, I still rage.

>> No.931462

Learn Chinese instead. There's a billion people who speak it and they own a large part of the world's economic base.

Learn Japanese instead. There's a couple of million people you can relate to, and they own the second largest stock market.

>> No.931515

lol wat?

>> No.932149

>>931462
This. China will take over the world soon, Japanese is useless.

>> No.932228

Theres always a benefit in learning another language but most people would say its more beneficial to take up french , spanish or a dialect of chinese.

>> No.932234

Yes, you can be cool to all your friends at your high school anime club.

>> No.932245

>>932149
Yes, and that is the day the world needs to be destroyed.

>> No.932277

Chinese, Indian, and Spanish would be better languages for you to learn for your vocation of choice.

>> No.932288

>>931436
Chinese is the international language of business. Japanese isn't worth shit in that sense.

>> No.932298

>>932277
There is no such language as Indian. Indians speak Hindi.

>> No.932700

jap is fun, but it has only one real side effect: it will endear you to your azn friends provided that you do not act like a freak about it.

also, you can watch jap dramas, and look very smart when you point out that someone's beautiful kanji tattoo really says "foreign asshole" and not "good luck dragon".

>>932298
Hindi, or one of a about a gadzillion other Indian languages.

>> No.932703

You would be able to speak to Japanese people and read Japanese things.

Those are the benefits.

for real, I LOL at people's tats that don't make any sense, and somehow not laugh when they believe it says something else.

>> No.932737

Are you going to live in japan? If not its useless unless you want to watch anime

If u live in america, Spanish would be a better language to learn since companies hiring are starting to look into that because of all of the mexicans.

It's for your hobby, and something to put down on an application for kicks.

Same as saying "Is there ANY benefit of learning sewing/yoyoing/skateboarding/etc"

>> No.932752

>>932746
Fuck you. Sewing is awesome.

>> No.932769

You could apply for translator and interpreter spots after you get it down pat. If you want it to be useful outside of OMG ANIME AND MANGA type things I would also recommend learning business Japanese

>> No.932774

>>932746
those aren't the same things as learning a entirely new language.

Hey here's a plan.

Learn Japanese. Then learn some computer programming, hell, some DS programming. THEN TRANSLATE THIIIIIIIIIISSSS.

IT WAS ALL CAUSED BY SPACE WITCHES

>> No.932814

I'd say that learning Japanese is not as useful as something like, say... Spanish as far as everyday application goes, but there are benefits. The fact that so much of it is new requires you to look at language differently, to approach things from new angles. It is a brain-expanding activity. After learning the language, you will simply be a better person all around.

It's not very big in practical application, since most Japanese that live here/do business with us are nice enough to actually know our fucking language (unlike a certain 20 million other people within the United States' borders), but it will make you smarter and more interesting all around. Go for it.

Of course sewing has benefits you idiot. You going to take your clothes to a fucking tailor ever time you do any minor damage to them?

>> No.933865

Why argue over learning Japanese, Chinese, Hindi or Spanish? Just learn all of them! Hell, go learn some French and German too just for the heck of it.

>> No.933866

>>933857
I just don't damage them.

>> No.933872

>>933865
>Just learn all of them!
This is actually my goal for my future. I know French already, and I'm picking up Japanese and Spanish as I go along. Then I'm going to study German and another Asian language (been thinking Vietnamese or Korean, but Hindi or Farsi might be better...). I don't want to learn Chinese at this point, though.

>> No.933888

I learned Jap just to play them silly video games. That was after I learned Spanish though.

I wish to tackle Arabic next.

Either you have clothes from the future or you never leave the house.

>> No.934002

If you speak Japanese well (JLPT 2+) and have a Bachelor's degreeyou can get a decent job working at a Japanese company. So I guess it is if you really want to live in Japan and not teach English.

Mandarin is probably much more useful in a general sense than Japanese, but if you really like Japanese then you can definitely find some applications for it. It would help to be very good at the language though, ideally like a level 3. But by learning Japanese, you will come to hate Japanese language "enthusiasts". They will either annoy the hell out of you, or you will become one yourself.
