How do you train your shmup autism? Lots of practice? Or is there some kind of secret to 1cc Touhou on Lunatic?

Good memory
and reflexes too!

Did anyone save that article where a guy investigated the different methods of improving at Touhou?

Think he called it pseudoscience.html.

Lots of watching replays in another window with the game paused before that point in the replay.

You can run into bullets without dying. There is a hitbox at the center of each bullet and a hitbox at the center of your character. You only die when both hitboxes meet. The edge of a bullet can pass over you and you'll survive. When you've learned this it is easy to progress because instead of flying all over the screen to dodge you can just weave between tiny gaps.

It's mostly practice. Of course if you're bad at video games it won't help that much.

2hu is a game, you get better at it by being more skilled. That just means practice.
Also, in the case of 2hu, there are patterns and so memorizing them can be incredibly useful.

The autism part is how long you intend on dedicating to acquiring your skill.

Make savestates on MAME
Watch replays from good players
Figure out what they're doing
Load savestates and practice until you can do it too

Congraturation you are super player !
