I should probably have been an actor because few people suspect how much I hate and find difficulty in speaking to other people, so I must come across well. I also hate women and children and they always have something wrong with them, so they are almost all I see.

But it was either become a doctor or be kicked out of the house. Hopefully I'll be earning enough to take it easy in the future before the almost inevitable suicide (seriously, even people who like it want to kill themselves now, I'm screwed since I've always hated it and am only doing it because the family is making me do it).

I suspect most of /jp/ shares my view that compulsory schooling was a waste of time for them. I learned all that bullshit through reading books by myself, not through learning from a teacher.

Not disagreeing of course, just going with the tone of the thread.

I think it's kind of sad. Higher education is obsolete. I have unrestricted access to the same knowledge and materials Harvard or Cambridge students have. I could learn the same stuff if I cared. I know people will say, "Oh yeah but you don't care so it doesn't matter," but it really does. If I was so devoted to education I was willing to spend half of my life in debt because of it, why wouldn't I just learn from textbooks in my own home?

Night shift residential concierge is an extremely /jp/ friendly job, especially if you get a posting at a yuppie condominium (lower crime rate).

Pros:

- very, very low probability of having to deal with illegal/unauthorized shit, so you can take it easy -- I've done a downtown Toronto condominium for 1 year and I had to call the police like, 3 times total, and for the other times, you just write up a report and send it to your property manager
- even if you do see some shit going on like trespassing, concierge guys are rarely expected to take action other than to call the police (EXCEPTION: if you are trained in use of force, and your boss tells you to wear body armor and equip batons/handcuffs, you might have to make arrests yourself)
- 95% of the time is spent sitting in front of a computer, uuuusually you can get away with non-duty related browsing if you aren't stupid about it
- barely any social interaction, and if you do see some people, they're usually escorts and delivery people who mind their own business

Cons:

- low pay

Unfortunately. Ending my first year as a CS major. Being constantly up to my neck with deadlines, teaching program being filled with mandatory shit that has nothing to do with my major like chem and phys, the realization that you basically just teach yourself and teachers are only there to give you assignments threw me off. I finished my first semester without any problems, but now I'm drowning in dues. I'm not even sure I can pass it anymore. That one day when I was too sick to study and just played my grinding games all day was the happiest day of this year. I wish I could take it easy.

Harvard and Cambridge are two of the most financially well-endowed schools, and as a result they are usually very generous with financial aid, so I highly doubt you would spend half your life in debt if you went to either of those schools, but the idea applies to other less rich schools.

As far as actual education goes, its completely true that in terms of academics you could learn exactly the same thing by yourself as you would at any college, but a large part of the motivation for going to a prestigious school is for the interaction with faculty members, research opportunities, peers, etc.

Also the connections you are able to make in college are extremely useful, as well as the degree of course.

USAF. There are a lot of choices when it comes to "jobs" in the military but right now I think the more appealing ones are a bit harder to land with retention levels fairly high and the civilian job market still struggling. If you get stationed overseas you can make some decent money with the additional entitlements.

Even if you decide to get out after your first enlistment you can usually get out with an Associate's Degree and use your GI Bill to go to school full-time to finish your undergrad degree. If you can manage to get a higher level security clearance while in he military then you can also get out and land a job with some sort of defense contractor.

I'm halfway to retirement though so I'm sticking it out for 20+.

Of course this was something on craigslist and isn't even a real job and sooner or later I'm going to run out of .wavs to transcribe. But for $10 an hour and a tiny office with hours I choose I'm not complaining. When everyone leaves I just get on /jp/ anyway.

This is completely true. I'm at one of those universities and I just do most of my learning while at my computer. My subject really is something you can teach yourself without much fear of ending up astray since it's quite clear cut, so I don't find the tuition classes that helpful. Right now I'm paying just to revise a couple of hours a day in my room and take some exams later.

On the other hand I think at this level most of the people around me are interested in staying in academia and actually like the subject. But certainly in undergrad, there are a lot of people who are just doing it for the piece of paper.

I've had the same grocery store job for eight years. Spent half those years at full-time and the other half part-time while going to college. It took all eight years to earn my four year degree that way, but I have hardly any debt.

Also I've been done with college over a year and still haven't found a job with my degree in Biology. I want to complain that I've worked too hard for too long to not be better off, but my life is so much easier just working full-time without college that I have trouble complaining.

I'm sure many here are the same.

Just see if you can make yourself do it once per person for only a moment. I've worked almost a decade in the service industry and it's all I do. I've never worked in the service industry and I still get stuck with the same shit.

I do great in interviews for the most part. After I start working people discover that I'm not as happy and fun as I may have came off being and they end up hating me. A lot. Sometimes they'll try to get me fired or in the case of my last job, fire me themselves. Once after a few months I managed to fake some friendliness and all it did was bite me in the ass where now everyone felt free to insult me to my face rather than being scared and having to while I wasn't around.

I believe this may have something to do with humans being social creatures and if someone doesn't fit in with the herd they may be dangerous and should be cast out.

I wish I was smart enough for college. Hell I just found out I can't even use the military as a fallback because of my psoriasis.

My dad had me practicing day trading for a while but even when I got to a point where I was profitable most of the time, I feel like the market is way way waaayyy too volatile in this day and age. Thus I felt like I would eventually lose a lot of my dads money when something major and completely unexpected happens.

What instruments do you trade? Forex? Common Stock? Options? FX Options? Gold/Silver/Oil etc.? OTC/Pink? Other?

Like I said, I only deal with Forex, so I don't know about day trading (more like weekly~ for me) anything besides Forex. Those volatile events happen almost daily on a single currency sometimes, not to mention spanning over several currencies. There's pretty much a 100% guarantee that something unexpected can happen in whatever you trade in Forex, even the most common pairs (I try not to deal with news, it's just something I'm not very good at, I prefer to simply analyze charts. I don't have anyone to help me anyway, I'm self-taught).

If you don't continue to take risks, you won't get very far, at least that's what it's like for me. I've lost hundreds when I started out, and I only intended to invest less than 5k. Although I do play it relatively safe most of the time and only take very high/good probability trades, I still lose often. It's just how it goes. Could be different from other instruments though, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I work for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service in the SIGINT department.

Basically, I just sit around all day analyzing and disseminating intelligence. My particular area is mostly related to wireless communications and radio.

It's a perfect autist job since you are sitting there alone all day, with no one bothering you, just reading and listening to stuff. Sadly the pay isn't good but that's civil service for you.
