I think it would annoy me even more than the anime annoyed me, since the VN would have oh so much more opportunities to indulge in DESPAIR and bleakness before it would get to the good parts.

And that ending would be ten times as disappointing if it took an entire VN length to get too.

I probably wouldn't have liked it as much. Part of what made Madoka awesome for me was the witches. They were so very striking, visually speaking, and I don't know if it would've been the same in a VN. The animated scenes just brought the insanity to life far better than a handful of backgrounds would've
