Sure, ordering onaholes from a local site (like omochadreams.de...but they're not available there) is no problem, because they do age verification. The problem with the customs stuff seems to be that there is no age verification, so it could theoretically be ordered by children, and then all those "protect the children"-laws kick in.

Not OP but yes EU countrys do have UPS, Fedex, DHL etc but only if you choose so which costs allot of money. any other international package like EMS defaults to the shitty national post service.

Yes and no. The dont give a fuck about the tax since national mail is privatized these days. but more about the declaration costs which is €12.50 and even €17 for EMS packages. Its a goldmine for those pigs.

so yeah if a package is valued below the threshold on the box they are more likely to open the box in the hopes to find a receipt with a higher value.

I think that's standard procedure in any civilized country.
The issue is for unsigned packages, if the courier is a jerk he can just leave it there next to the mailbox and mark it as delivered.

I would prefer that to driving to the post office, waiting in line, and then picking up my package. It works out for both of us; he has less work to do, and I don't have to go out of my way to get my package. I live in a nice neighborhood though so there's not really anything to worry about.

It's not like customs here in Germany are going to care much over chinese cartoon-based sex toys.
It's just a bureaucratic problem, especially when they are too dumb to read the actual invoice attached to the parcel.
I was at the local customs office probably 20-30 times because of that already, mostly for figs, and never had any problems with just bringing a paypal excerpt and invoice.

And customs here can and from my experience will open the packet 60-80% of the time even if it is declared correctly and they process it accordingly.
