It's ZUN's first "story" CD like the Maribel and Renko stories.
However it is very similar to Umineko in that they both seem inspired by And Then There Was None. Also it seems to be heavily implied that Alice is the killer. They never mentioned any names in the story but the women was described to have blonde hair, and the story's alternate name is Hourai Doll, and also someone gets nailed to a tree, similar to a certain kind of straw effigy.

[Spoiler]Why did he have to hang himself? She didn't actually poison his food like he thought. None the less she shall always remember him as her Hourai immortal Doll.

Was writting this when 4chan crashed, and went to bed. Ended up shopping pic related.

On the note of DiPP, I would like to mention somethings I found interesting about it. First, lets assume that in PCB, Alice's age is somewhere between 17-21 years old (Maybe a little older). If we were to take the the track name "Doll Maker of Bucuresti" as her place of birth, along with her probable age, she was most likely born under the Socialist Republic of Romania. During that time, the Romanian government in an attempt to increase the birth rate, banned all means of contraception and abortion.

It is likely that "Alice", as we know her now, was likely born to parents who could not support her and forced to abandon her. Also, Alice is not a very Romanian name, my guess is that her name was Margareta given her current "last name". Which perhaps by coincidence means "Daughter of Light" in it's Persian origins. (Also -oid is a suffix for something that is like something but isn't. examples like humanoid and metalloid.)

Now Alice being abandoned as a child, she probably ended up with a group of street urchins. In DiPPs interlude it is said, "Don't you want to hear the bustle of the city once again? Don't you miss the fortune and prosperity?" and "I ended up in a group of theives with everyone, like the old days, despite wanting to fix my life." It seems that at some point in time before the time the group left for the mountains in the year 2000 (DiPPs probably takes place in 2002), Alice had left left the group seeking a between life, but was meet with roadblocks due to her lack of schooling and parents. She then went back to her only home. It was sometime after this that they left for "a mountain in the east", this could be referring to the Carpathian Mountains which are north of Bucharest but could be considered Eastern due to their location in Europe. But the east mountain could refer to somewhere actually east of their origins if they were actually felt adventurist.

The prevalence of street children has lent to a burgeoning sex tourism business in Romania, though efforts have been made to decrease the number of street children.[28]"
