Long story made as short as possible...

Sanae has come on hard times since being a miko isn't amazingly protfitable and there already is a vastly superior youkai exterminator in Gensokyo. The shrine is in danger, but she tries to keep this fact from Kanako and Suwako. In the end, she reluctantly resorts to prostitution to keep the shrine afloat, ditching her charms and supplies under a waterfall to make it appear like she's still making a profit from the extermination. All goes reasonably well until Aya discovers the stash of charms under the waterfall, and quite rudely and gleefully confronts Sanae about her work before Kanako and Suwako. Sanae is devastated and runs away before Kanako or Suwako can say a word about it. Trying to hide, she slips on a wet cliff, breaks her neck and dies.
Sanae arrives at the Sanzu no Kawa and is again devastated to find that she has more than enough to pay the fare, having brought joy to *lots* of people in life. Komachi matter of factly informs her that there's little reason for her to cross since she's kind of fucked anyway, having lied to her patron deities and all. Kanako then smashes Komachi's boat with rods from space and Sanae is miraculously restored to life and health, if with months in a neck brace. The goddesses forgive her and wonder why she didn't tell earlier, and resolve to find a solution to the shrine's problems together.

Moral being that when in doubt, nuke from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
