It's not too bad but I think you should have pre-ordered ver 2 of flandre by griffon (see my pic). Figures made by griffon aren't the best and are often pretty static in poses and faces. However sometimes they're all we've got

Also, why are you putting neko in the email form, you use noko to return to a thread not neko. Neko does nothing other than make you look like a fool. Sage is used when you don't want to bump a thread, bumping a thread often isn't required in a slower board like /jp/.

They are the lowest denomination of figure manufacturers. Their products more often than not have bland faces, terribly boring poses, poor sculpting, quality control issues, and even cost more than a similar but higher quality figure from other manufacturers.

You're better off holding out for a better figure from a better manufacturer. This is /fig/, don't be satisfied with mediocrity.

Griffon's figs vary greatly in quality, ranging from Below Average to Slightly Above Average.

For instance, my Flandres are pretty nice quality, where as my Tenshi is awful quality, and my Byakuren is pretty average.

Quality aside, they also tend to have boring poses, faces that just don't fit, and somtimes trouble fitting into their stands/holding their accessories.

Do any of you guys have any experience selling your figs? I really don't want to sell them, but it's pretty much that or be homeless right now for me. Have had some luck with myfigurecollection.com. Any of you sold them on ebay or anywhere else like that? What's the best way to find out what I can get for them?

I guess you could try ebay, but if you need the money fast you'll probably need to undercut their value significantly. That's the way it always goes, if you need it gone asap you'll have to put it up for a steal of a price for it to sell asap (if the character/fig is even in demand, if not it could take months even at a fair price).

If you need some instant money I'd just take out a loan of some kind, you'd need to sell what could possibly be a decent chunk of your fig collection for even one month's rent around here. Even if I liquidated my entire collection (probably worth about 4k) that wouldn't last me even 3 months; selling something that (at least to me) is an extension of my flesh and blood in personal value would not be worth it over taking a loan or cash advance or whatever else I'd need to do to get by until I can fix it.

It's very much dependant on where you live and what shipping you pick.
I'm an Ausfag and on SAL, EMS, etc. I've never once had to pay taxes or customs fees. From what I've heard though shipping EMS to Canada and parts of Europe will get you taxed, but SAL will generally slip under the net.

I really don't get where this idea that EMS is at risk in Canada came from, that was always Britain or something. Canada Customs doesn't seem any more likely to actually bother with an EMS parcel than a SAL one, and the overall rate is "not bloody often". Over 20 things in the last year and a bit without getting hit once, with EMS maybe 25% of the time.

Anything that's a commercial carrier like DHL or FedEx you're guaranteed too though, so they can legally cover their ass about doing the paperwork.

I bought a 1.4 cu ft fire safe to protect my figs when I'm not home. It's rated for up to 843 C for 30 minutes, while keeping the internal temperature less than 177 C.

The temperature would probably never reach that high since the fire response is extremely quick where I live (less than 5 minutes on Friday night), unless there is an explosion or something.

Do you guys think it'll make a difference when it comes to preserving the figs? Or am I just wasting my time everytime I transfer my figs to the safe when I leave my apartment?

Canada reporting in. I received 8 Japanese parcels through DHL (custom brokerage) and EMS (Canada Post) this year, ranging from $50 to $290 and I was never once taxed. None of them were even marked gift.

However, when I bought a used Sennheiser 650 for $290 from the US, I got taxed $40 through UPS custom brokerage.

So I guess Japanese imports are fine, just watch out for American products.

That's a class 350 fire safe, the paint and PVC will deform way before 177C. You'd need a class 150 or better, 125 to have a shot at keeping the figures in somewhat passable temperatures (and conditions).

If the fire gets to the safe, it's pretty much over as you'll heat the inside at 10 degrees a minute, it won't take long to ruin the figures at that rate. Don't forget the safe will have to cool from it's max temperature, essentially doubling the exposure time and allowing more time to deform.

Keep in mind that even if a response time is in 5 minutes, a fire can spread extremely quickly in 5 minutes...and an apartment will burn for way longer than a normal house.

Sorry man, but with a 30 minute class 350 will only buy you a few minutes of protection for PVC. You'd need a 1+ hour class 125 to get any more than that. (which runs about 2-2.5k for 1.5 ft^3)

The rest is just hoping the blaze gets extinguished quickly.

There's two general schools of thought: 1) buy everything you like, even if it's only a little 2) only buy good, quality ones you want because you like the character/figure itself a lot Personally, I go with #2 because you'll probably spend less and better appreciate the figures you do buy because you actually like them and didn't just buy them on a whim. Occasionally a reprint run will be made of a popular sculpt but these can be months or years between runs with the exception of very popular items.

I generally think you should only buy figs that you actually really like and you better make sure they actually look good.

Also do not buy on impulse. I regretted buying some of the junks that are still boxed up now in my house. Space are limited, you wont be able to display all of them prominently unless you live in a bungalow.

I am not sure how much they marked up the price but by my estimate probably only about 10% and not all the items are actually marked up. Their storefront display prices are always cheaper than the price you see on the web. Like that Alice Pop Wonderland that anon bought earlier, it was about 15000 in the Nakano store the last time I went there. The Marisa lamp was like 8000 while they are selling it online for 10000.

And I'm that anon. I'm fine with the 16k, I've been eyeing Alter Alice for over a year. Their Wedding Azusa is an insane 18k with 4700 yen in shipping, while I've seen it sell for 14-16k previously. I guess the anime boosted the popularity even though the figure is from 2007.

As you can probably tell from the stuff I listed, I tend to go for the rarer, harder to find, exclusive stuff. BGS isn't especially rare but I think 11071 yen new and unopened is a good price considering the current Y!JP prices.
