Yeah really, the common element in young boys' art (as in elementary through high school) is fights, battles, wars, basically anything to do with violence and killing.

When I was younger I drew sprawling battlefields where stickmen killed eachother in various ways. I drew decorated military veterans commanding tanks and planes from atop fortresses, war flags billowing in the wind. I drew superheroes and villains, anime-inspired martial artists, gallant swordsmen and frightening wizards. Cannons blazed on the prows of vast starships. Dragons were slain, nations conquered, women ravished, legends born.

At no point in my childhood did I ever think deep sea divers were even remotely cool.
