Okay, so I know Japan doesn't allow dual-citizenship for those 21+...

How hard is it to regain Japanese citizenship if you get naturalized overseas, and decide to come back? Or vice versa for weaboos that become Japanese?

You won't lose US citizenship if you apply for citizenship of Japan since Japan is not engaged with hostilities with the United States.

As quoted http://travel.state.gov/law/citizenship/citizenship_778.html:
>> In light of the administrative premise discussed above, a person who: 1. is naturalized in a foreign country; 2. takes a routine oath of allegiance to a foreign state; 3. serves in the armed forces of a foreign state not engaged in hostilities with the United States, or 4. accepts non-policy level employment with a foreign government, and in so doing wishes to retain U.S. citizenship need not submit prior to the commission of a potentially expatriating act a statement or evidence of his or her intent to retain U.S. citizenship since such an intent will be presumed.

>>828510
Japan might not allow you to become a citizen without renouncing your US citizenship, though. (I don't know how they do it there.)

>> No.828517

>>828510
Yeah, but that's not what he's asking about. US will let you have dual citizenship with Japan, but Japan won't allow you to have dual citizenship with the US.

OP here, that was a serious question.

I was in the US for a while, was thinking about citizenship, but am back in Japan and weighing my options now. The part about weaboos becoming Japanese was since I figured there's people like that here.

Because Japan is an asshole about citizenship, especially if you're not ethnically 'pure Japanese'. Even descendants of Japanese have difficulty getting citizenship.
