All Touhou characterization is shaky to begin with. I personally like Alice as a vaguely creepy eccentric who studies magic all by her lonesome off in the woods and just shows up to festivals and stuff to give the puppet shows that are apparently now canon.

And I like that she's a coward who can't take losing so she intentionally handicaps herself and adopts a highly technical fighting style so when she loses it's all like "BUT I WASN'T REALLY TRYING ANYWAY LOLOLOL".
