She's one of the most realistically written young teen girls in all of late-night anime. She's exactly the reason why Incubators mostly go after troubled little girls.

I didn't really like her very much as first, but upon rewatching I actually grew to like her. Sure I didn't agree very much with her, but she really tried to do what she thought best. As well as she acted how an emotional teenaged girl would believe, and the harsh realities of the world smacked her down, gave a strong sense of character, and was a sad tragic end.

She's not my favorite char by a longshot, but I like her.

Her storyline was easily the weakest in the series. Like the I'M HAVING TROUBLE WITH MY BOYFRIEND storyline you'd see in a bad episode of Sailor Moon.

What hurt it most is that it was stated pretty early on that Sayaka was going to get burned (I think h0mu said it). Then you kinda got that rushed "friendship" between Sayaka and Kyouko. That just sucked.

Sayaka's part was a good chunk of the series too (episodes 4-8 I think) so it really prevents Meduka from becoming really amazing. In the end it just turns out to be a pretty good series in a 8/10 way.

At first I disliked Sayaka for being a bitch and a loser, but then I remembered that in a world of dumb and unrealistic anime characters, a character who goes through actual development is a good thing for a series. I appreciate Sayaka for who she is and how she changes. Very much like another whiny bitch character.

As least Kyouko developed a little (in like the span of one episode). She went from wanting to kill people to trying to save one.

Sayaka was my favorite character in the series, actually. She's just so mixed up, conflicted, and often hypocritical, but her wants and needs are very relateable. It's just so heartwrenching to watch her because I've met people exactly as screwed up as she is

Also, any character that models themselves after a heroic knight automatically gains +3 points to my 1-10 scale

Sayaka's last moments were probably the most emotional ones for me. Quite reminiscent of Archer, driven by ideals to despair. The things that held her back were her Knight Templar attitude and lack of time for her to become an endearing character.

I've gone through similar troubles as well, only I never got to be a magical girl.
Admiring people from afar and getting angry when they dont love you.
Having someone close to you be crippled.
Trying to keep your ideals and telling the world to fuck itself, only to end up as a piece of shit failure.

Sayaka isnt the worst Madoka. Homura is. I know this because I am her only fan. She lost first round of Saimoe. There hasnt been a Homura thread in months. No one likes her anymore. I wish she were half as good as Sayaka.
