I sorta liked it (battles and the music were awesome) but can't understand how it became such a hit.
It's just a deconstruction of Mahou Shoujo genre, just like Eva is a deconstruction of mecha and School Days is a deconstruction of harem genre.
Though I really liked the beginning episodes and the part where the show started to take a darker turn, but then it went to just shitty

I wonder how they even come up with those sound effects. Do they have some kind of dictionary to look up in where they can get a list of sucking sounds to use? How do they decide how many of those small kana to add at the end of a word? How many exclamation points can you use before your editor tells you to vary it a little by adding a few commas instead? How does the length of the ellipsis relate to the time interval of the pause it signifies? Do you just decide completely at random whether you'll write the occasional word or even just a っ in katakana?

It seriously baffles me how they manage to make nearly every single dialogue box of sucking sounds unique.
