Is Marisa canonically cute?

She's kind of a ヤンチャ娘 and not a typical ユリキャラ. She even looks weird in all of the dialogue portraits, and the only one where she looks like a typical bishoujo is in non-ZUN drawn titles.

I think her being a bishoujo is just fan projection. She's just the odd little sidekick that balances out the Mary Sueness of the beautiful and wonderful miko.

Picture related-- an example of fan projection.

Marisa isn't supposed to look like a delicate little flower of a waifu.

All touhous are beautiful lolis, no exceptions, and especially the witches.

No it's not.

It is, just like most cute touhos are portrayed as lesbians

>> No.8049170

She also has very male like hobbies.

- enjoy taking baths, which is a very masculine thing to do in feudal Japan
- frequently talks about sake and food

That illustration is a representation of Marisa, not a real portrait.

I think that's a big part of it, her behavior and mannerisms. I think it's natural for humans to associate feminine behavior and politeness and goodness as beautiful, and even more so for the extremely context-oriented Japanese. Marisa may be quite the looker but her behavior and speech and other attributes take a lot away from her beauty as a female.

Why are you slandering Marisa? Everybody looks ugly in EoSD.

Was there ever a time Marisa has been referred to as "beautiful" in official text?

>> No.8049397

When ZUN was talking about Reimu and Marisa's height and appearance he said that he "Found them average".

It might have specifically been directed towards the height issue, but the wording makes me think it's not. So I just imagine them as average young girls, with cute parts they are proud of and blemishes that they play down.

I don't see anyone as beautiful unless it's actually stated so, like in the case of Kaguya.

>>8049397

I think it's the opposite.

All women in Touhou are beautiful because it's a bishoujo doujin.

>> No.8049470

I think nobody's answering to my thread because it's unpleasant to talk about ugly Touhous like Marisa.

Even Alice is never once referred to as cute/beautiful/good-looking, yet she's always portrayed in fanfiction as some depraved sex kitten.

>> No.8049482

I see them as plain girls because otherwise I can't fantasize about my Touhou without feeling inadequate.

Now look who's projecting. This thread died because there's literally no point in talking about the flaws in our fantasy worlds.

I'll keep my beautiful Mokou waifu eventhough everybody thinks she's a grimdark tomboy.
