I have a small few IRL friends who I really love and a bunch of online acquaintances who are seemingly BRO AS F*CK as well. I didn't always. Most of my friends through the years have been shitheads. Only in the past few years did I happen to befriend a few people
that actually knew me.

It's really nice to be able to take it easy and do/talk about weeaboo stuff with friends period. People can make real friendships online. I believe that. They're not 100% accurate reflections of how that friendship would be IRL, but sometimes that's for the best too.

Every relationship has its own dynamic and integrity. If I like someone and they like me back and we have stuff in common and enjoy the time we spend with one another then we are friends.

It functions as an IM client AND web browser while I'm playing games. At least, for most games it'll do this. It's really handy.

Over time it just kind of killed my usage of AIM, MSN etc.

I'd use Xfire, but nobody uses that.

I tried having online friends on two sites.

The first site had under five regulars, and I was years late, so I got excluded from the circle jerk, I still stuck around for a year, but no one really wanted to talk to me so I quit.

The second site was really nice and I made some people who'd Id even consider friends, but they all died/left and the owner of the site decided to make the forums more web 2.0 friendly, now I cant even look at the forums without feeling sad.

And I dont want post my steam because I know I'd have people looking at my profile and judging me.

How do you make internet friends /jp/?

Hey /jp/, I need to ask you something. I currently converse with people at my school and treat them like "friends" but I never have any motivation to even talk to these people at all. It's like, I could really care less about what happens to them but I'm too scared of the thought of people looking down on me or ridiculing me because they would see me as a loner or something like that. I don't like these people, and I really hate the fact that I'm "forced" to talk to them on a daily basis or otherwise be ridiculed by society. I've always hated 1 on 1 internet conversations. from shit like AIM early in the internet to steam now. I've been on steam since it started and lots of people have added me from the early days of TF2 onward. But I don't want to remove anyone because I'd feel bad. My greatest fear is that when I go online to play a single player game someone will try to talk to me. Some guy wanted to cyber\rp with me once it was so awkward trying to tell him "no thanks".

I've only ever had one real internet friend I met through steam that I enjoyed talking to. But he long ago removed me because I never talked to him ( I assume). He always started the conversations but one day he was gone.

God forbid I add more /jp/ers and have to worry about them wanting to talk to me. I thought we came here because we are too awkward to talk without anonymity.

I have 1 real life friend. Several people have tried to be my friend but I gave them the cold shoulder.

I feel pretty good about this actually. Friends = less time with my self and drugs.

These threads really make me sick. I always read them and find supposed "/jp/ users" adding themselves on Steam, but when I investigate further I find out it's just a trap. They're not real /jp/sies at all. They're just normals from /v/ who somehow managed to come here, probably to post their profile and troll the lonely idiots who add them, like me. Well, I'm not falling for it ever again, and neither should anyone desperate or pathetic enough fall for it too. Even the girls always turn out to be guys, and they just end up posting all your private info on their retarded "vidya" forums.

I guess I could just play the "I like being alone" card, but recently I realized how much I would like to have someone IRL to talk with about the things I like. But then I remember that I actually like being alone as well, so it's better for things to stay as they are.
Online, well, I guess there's this guy who talks with me quite a bit, but I feel I don't pay as much attention as I want to him. Not sure if it's for the best or the worst.

Let's not kid ourselves here, beyond a vague affinity for differing aspects Japanese culture, most of us are here for the same reason - a rejection of/inability to interface with normal culture. It's interesting to note that Japanese otaku don't seem to deal with this issue (of having no friends) as much, from what I gather. They make friends with each other more often, which is much easier due to the fact they are, by definition, more numerous and confined to a small country that is easy to commute through.
"Western otaku" on the other hand, are less in number and span over a number of countries, including the US, which is bloated as fuck. On the Internet, we are also similarly decentralized, participating in a large number of relatively unpopular sites. In contrast, the Jap has access to 2ch, whose large otaku community is intimately linked to pixiv, nico video, and probably a few other sites.

Ignoring the obvious stench of /soc/ over the matter, do you ever do IRL meetups, /jp/? Would you participate in any?
