Are you a baka? All of the girls have a crush on Takeru and anything that implies intimacy would trigger their wrath as per standard genre rules.

Additionally-- each of the girls is probably concerned that one of the other girls is going to "win", but that's something they can accept. That's part of living in a society with one guy for every five girls.

But when the Trix Rabbit comes out of fucking nowhere and appears to be taking the prize. They all immediately unite against the common threat. Plus, anytime you date a younger girl, women your own age will see it as a challenge to their value. College girls freak out about dating a highschool girl and attempt to delegitimize the relationship or the worth of the girl. Mid 20s girls do that to college girls. After that point it gets less and less plausible for women to maintain that position.

As I understood it, the reason he remembered anything at the start of Alternative was because of his own willpower. At the end of UL he had strong feelings of wanting to "do things differently" had he known what he knew at the start of UL. Meanwhile, in Extra, Sumika had the same mentality for every route where Takeru ended up with someone else. Extra Sumika's will was downloaded into Alternative Sumika, who then carried it out. Takeru was forcibly looped back, and all women-related memories wiped, but his own will managed to hold onto the non specific stuff and his emotion was still there, Sumika couldn't rip that out of him.

>> No.7850857

The "military mumbo jumbo" and general presentation are the very essence of MuvLuv Alternative.

Sometimes I wish age could've expanded on the political dynamics of their universe instead of leaving it all from the perspective of Takeru who knows nothing. I'm pretty sure their fanbase doesn't give a shit about that though, nor do I know if age could even pull it off.

We got a fair bit of information, but I felt that it just fed it to us instead of letting the narrative speak for itself. The scenes where Takeru is physically interacting with the American soldiers were excellent for example, but there was a very limited context.

And I do realize the world was expanded in the side material, but I would've still preferred to have it in the actual game.

>> No.7851309

Looking at the Beta like that is a little inaccurate. The point is, they don't see "agency" or "thought" behind human actions. They see the actions of humanity as something like a hurricane. You experience the disaster and you learn to board up your windows or move elsewhere. The Beta's answer to Takeru when he asks why they are at war is... disbelief. It's like hearing a Hurricane talk to you or like having a Tornado yell at you. It makes no sense. They aren't using diversions. They are using "strategy" in the same sense that putting sandbags near a flooding river is a strategy.

As for the backroom Politics, I think Takeru is actually a pretty good window for it. It's enough without being too much. Knowing more of the Politics in advance would give away plot-twists that are very plausible only because they are the result of political forces.

Keep in mind, Takeru gets to be involved in nearly all of the big political events in MLA and all of his team members parents or lovers are highly relevant to the intrigue.

>>7842918

The explanation is that when they used the G-Bomb on the hive under the base, that explosion tapped into Sumika's will across all of the parallel worlds and her singular wish for Takeru, every Sumika created from an Extra timeline where Takeru picks another girl, lives her entire life wanting Takeru back. He keeps getting sent through world after world after world and each of those worlds ends in a bad possibility.

After he undergoes this an extremely high number of times, the residual information and its connection to Takeru is strong enough to transmit even from within their own timeline. That, or Sumika ended up amalgamating all of the possible future Takeru's from Ult's bad endings.

>> No.7851385

>>7851309
>Knowing more of the Politics in advance would give away plot-twists that are very plausible only because they are the result of political forces.

I can't think of a single time where it woud've made any real difference aside from Sagiri and Yuuhi, so they could've just dealt with it all afterwards. I can see your point, but some different perspective would've done wonders for MuvLuv in a lot of situations.

>Keep in mind, Takeru gets to be involved in nearly all of the big political events in MLA and all of his team members parents or lovers are highly relevant to the intrigue.

Again, by "getting involved" you mean "getting told" then maybe. The climatic hive battle would've been so much more than with properly fleshed out political dynamics, particularly by properly adding the circumstances of more countries involved and just how much it meant for them to be helping.

Remember when Takeru's unit, the UN, and the US were going to infiltrate the the original hive together? It infuriated me that the story actually skipped over all of their efforts from the actual infiltration and what they would've felt when they were mislead. That could've been a truly amazing scene if handled properly, basically Walken's portion multiplied by a thousand.

>> No.7851458

The UN and US all got shot down because they didn't have meatshields in the form on Ichimonji's.
And Alternative had already been delayed for 3 years because age was working on finishing it. Had they expanded on Kashgar, it probably would taken several more months to finish, that they may or may not have had to do so.
Maybe the manga will expand on it when it gets there, and/or Alternative will eventually get remade including all those changes in there with better rUGP wizardy.

I thought that only the units which were meant to secure the landing zone and hive entrances all died. It was stated that there were a lot of them and only a select few were actually going to enter.
I also seem to remember Takeru's unit making it to the point where directly after where they decided their allies to resumed the story, so I just assumed they completely ignored all of that.

Either way, just replaced "skipped over" with "copped out of" and it's all of the same shit, because that's basically what it was.

>> No.7851527

I think your criticisms are valid. But ultimately, it's sort of like Starship Troopers. It is a story about a soldier and his experiences in a war.

The reality of politics is that political decisions are made by older people. Politics isn't something that we could ever get through Takeru.

I agree that parts of the story are missing and that perhaps they could have made more drama at that part. But at the same time, the scenario was constructed so that we could focus on the characters we started with and their last moments together. I think that part had a purity of purpose that could be lost if we focused on other things.

It's hard for me to look at ML:A and not think of all the times I just literally said "YES! FUCK YEAH!" to everything as it came together. I think if they replaced some of the more tedious infodumps with political intrigue, it would probably have been an improvement.... but it was so good already that I feel there is more to be lost from messing with it than to be gained.

I dont know whether its ixrec's translation but the game seem to use confusing terminology a lot.

For example it frequently switches between "wings" "squadrons" "battalions" "companies", etc. Its supposed to be one or the other...

And its even weirder that in the coup arc, the maps show "wing" but the translation reads "batallion" or some such.

As for Kashgar, the first waves that were dropped to secure the gate got wiped out by the anti-laser warheads that the BETA didnt shoot down. The second wave died in the air.

It was clearly rushed at that point, and you can see that the game is rushed at some points. Like when the BETA start pouring into hangar 90, there's a lot of gunfire sounds but no tracer fire and no BETA.

Ixrec can't into military terminology.
It's a lot more consistent in Japanese. Some guy working on the English wiki has been having difficulty trying to properly label things because of the patch having issues.

Basically, the official stuff is like so, with numbers indicating group size.
2=Element
4=Flight
12=Squadron
36=Group
108=Wing

There's a huge part which didn't get expanded on.

You know how early on in Extra, Takeru is dreaming of playing Valgernon with Mikoto?

And the game turns out EXACTLY the same later on with the exact same lines?

How come that didn't get expanded on? I thought that would show up for sure in Unlimited or Alternative.

That's just because Takeru is so locked into his patterns for Valger-non that Mikoto and even Ayamine can exploit them and beat him.
