Hey /jp/,
I save about $1,200 AU a month, so in around ten months (when I have between $10,000 and $12,000) I'm going to GTFO and go to Japan.
I need some advice here, because I have almost no Japanese (I studied it, but never used it) and my plan is to basically just wander around Japan for a year or so teaching English as I go to make additional money on top of my savings.
I have a certification in teaching English from the University of New South Wales, but no bachelor's degree.
I'm good at living on small amounts of money, and intend to stay in the cheapest accommodation.

Do you think this will be possible?

Picture kind of related.

no

Good luck getting a job.

Just go to some community college or whatnot until you can apply for JET or some shit like that. You're not going to make anything if you just wander.

I really want to flame you, but I won't.

Put your money to better use.

12.000 for a year might work if you're saving enough. cooking, sleeping outside mostly or only very very cheap accomodation.

Jobs that will earn you a little extra could work too. I'd say try to polish up your japanese then you'll be fine.

I thought if I stayed in a town for a few weeks, I may be able to do some private tuition.
Can someone who has experienced the job market for English tuition in Japan comment on this sort of thing..?

The Japanese don't like us.

Hmmn, that's what I thought. I have a nice warm coat, I don't mind sleeping under a tree sometimes :D

Because I'm not teaching japanese.

I didn't mean sleeping under a tree. This is plain stupid.

Buy a bike and get a small one man tent and a sleeping bag. That does the job for the summer mostly.

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, and if the weather is unusually bad I'll just get a cheap room somewhere.
I'll have to get a room in winter though :\

Don't laugh. Many people teach english without knowing japanese here.

it was a serious question. the lack of punctuation probably made you think it wasn't but that is not the case

Youth hostels are one possibility, to be sure.

But then again, you could get a really cheap apartment somewhere. I'm paying 800$ for Tokyo Chiyoda-ku. Which is not exactly cheap, but not extremely expensive either.

Outside of the big cities, or somewhere more in the outskirts stuff would be cheaper, to be sure.

There are many private english teaching "schools" that don't require you to have a degree. Mostly conversation schools, where you'll have private students to practice one-to-one conversation.

Payment won't be that good, but with some cash as backup you can survive.

And I can just repeat myself: Many people teach english here without speaking japanese.

You just go english all the way. It's harder for beginners, but just works forks fine. Going monolingual for language practice is the best way in any language, anyway.

Private tuition is a BAD idea. You don't know Japanese, you don't know anyone there. There's no way you could possibly sell your services.

Read up on any English teaching program (like JET) before going there and apply for that.

If you don't actually get a job there, you will never live on 12k for a year, and even if you did, I wouldn't see the point. If you want to go to Japan it should be because of their goods/Akiba. If you can't spend any money, just stay wherever you live.

>> No.783045

>>783040

haha oh wow.

>> No.783094

Hmmn, thanks for all your help guys... I think my best bet is to wander around spending as little as possible and attempting to make money in any way I can whilst learning Japanese, and then when I get down to about 3,000,00 yen I'll stay where I am and try to get a job.
Failing that, I'll just rock back here (Australia, by the way, thus the AUD in my OP).

I'm not that interested in spending money on things as someone mentioned, I'm just looking for something, and I'll know what it is when I find it. And no, it's not a fucking girl you pussies. I might have to buy it though. Hmmn... I'm sure it'll work itself out.

Any better ideas?

Fine, you tell me why any /jp/sie would want to go to Japan if not for Japanese goods.

You aren't going to become suddenly popular with people, you'll be the same person sitting in your house on the computer all day. You can do that wherever you live.

Well, the rural areas are pretty awesome. I'd love to just chill in Hinamizawa. But I don't know why you're responding to such obvious trolls.
