I have a question regarding fakes and whatnot. I saw that Mandarake had this figure in stock today and with some calculations regarding dollars and yen it seems like it would be cheaper to buy it from eBay from an American reseller.

Is there any easy way to tell if it is legit or not? The pictures of the one I am looking at has all of the stickers in the correct places and it seems legit to me, I'm just worried about my possible lack of knowledge and I'd hate to be spending 50 bucks on a fake fig.

Speaking about "Griffon-like", this figure of Makise by GSC is clearly inferior to Kotobukiya's one.

Are you kidding? That pose is so elegant & dynamic and captures the essence of the character beautifully. The way the hair is sculpted flowing in the wind along with the perfect form and folds of her jacket... even her fingertips grasping her phone so lightly are so delicately done. Not to mention the gorgeous facial expression and depth to her eyes.

The Kotobukiya version can just boast a gimmick base and the pose itself is severely simple, but I suppose one could argue he static posture is part of her personality.

Yes, you will get fucked with fakes.
Amazon rarely stocks anime figures in their warehouse. Its ok if you don't want to post the link to the item (afraid it might get sold out if you post it here), but amazon does a lot of third party sales which means you might end up with a fake.

As long as it's not from a third party seller you should be fine... but even then, I bet the guys at Mandarake will be much better at identifying fake anime figures than some Amazon in the USA.

I don't think the detolfs are permanently discontinued.

Also there are those smaller klingsbo or whatever shelves from Ikea as well. Not that great but I kind of like the wider setup.

No pictures at the moment. Don't like the idea of taking an angle grider to her undies just yet so I'm ignoring the skirt problem right now. Spent the weekend drilling some of the joints and sizing pins. Found it best to have multiple sizes of brass wire to work with. Not quite sure how to use the pin vice; I couldn't get it to hold the drill bits straight so I used my dremel even though it wasn't as precise as I'd liked. Only used it when milling the pins to size.

Got a Binford decent air compressor from amazon after my local hobby shop failed to get one for nearly a month. Promptly made a mess of things with it by trying to apply (unthinned) Mr. Surfacer 1200 as a primer. Despite using the largest needle kit and messing with the regulator pressure, I couldn't get the spray to behave consistently. I'd fiddle with the paint regulator (I have a single action Paasche Type H, so it's separate) until the primer was flowing, but it always stopped after making a few strokes and I'd have to fiddle with it again.

Guy from the hobby shop said I could get away with using a cardboard box as a backstop to catch overspray ... bad idea. Paper fibers. Paper fibers everywhere. Massively fucked up the primer job before I noticed it.

There's a couple gashapon of her out there, like the one from Surfer's Paradise (those are all pretty nice actually). Best of luck in finding one, though. Seriously.

There's also some really nice garage kits of her, but unless you're an experienced modeler / GK maker already, you best forget about it since you'd have to build/paint it yourself. Not to mention they are, usually, literally impossible to get unless you were there at the actual convention (such as WonFes), or a third party got a hold of one and did recasts.

This pic covers some of the figures I bought since June. I just realized it was missing the nude Horo figure, and that tiger-girl Taiga after putting everything back.

Also my collection of 100+ cat/dog/bunny girls has been joined by a squid. I may keep here there, or move her to my non-animal girl collection of figures.

Nope. Their shipping charges are exactly the standard rates as listed on the Japan Post website. The only way you might pay more for shipping from AmiAmi than you do anywhere else is if you get unlucky with their limited box selection, and get bumped up into a larger box padded out with a bunch of packing paper.

HLJ do do that shrinkwrap packing, and have their permanent 20% discount on EMS though, which can make for slightly cheaper shipping if you use SAL, and quite a bit cheaper for EMS. AmiAmi's steeper discounts usually outweight that though, unless you get really unlucky with the box sizing.

Don't have it, but I checked it out before I decided on a detolf. I believe the distance between shelves were roughly 30 cm, while the detolf was 50 cm.

Seeing my figures in the 50 cm detolf, I think they could have fit in the 30 cm klingswhatever. But it is very close fitting there. 40 cm would probably be optimal, though I haven't seen any with that.

Well, the unpainted doesn't look too bad thus far.

Also the POP version Cirno was better than expected as well, so, I think maybe Griffon can do something decent... so long as their usual sculptors don't touch it. Particularly Akiyama, he's the one responsible for that horrible Meiling and the Kanako hair-poof.

Also speaking of POP, the upcoming Remilia looks pretty cute too.

Speaking of Griffon, I recieved my Remilia Gungnir some days ago, and she really is gorgeous, even that slight grin doesn't look weird. The only huge flaw in the quality is about the hair, on one side the two parts aren't welded together....

If anyone is on the fence for the Madoka nendo, I'd actually suggest skipping it. The poof of a skirt means she can only rotate around her waist, and the peg joints in her arms have a very poor fit.

Kyuubey's head is also a 1 DOF peg joint, not a ball joint.
