Third day without power. Spent 800 bucks on an commercial generator yesterday, then another 150 on an air card so I could get some sort of internet.

Still no water, all my food has spoiled, eating take-out two meals a day.

Also, it is cold, and my fire is terrible.

You really are an internet addict.

Unless the power isn't projected to come on for weeks and the generator is actually an intelligent investment.

That's a shame.

Doesn't your McDonalds have free wi-fi? Just go there and order a glass of water or something if you're so poor.

I always keep 5,000 in a savings account for unexpected expenditures. Car repairs, medical emergencies, that sort of thing.

So since you have 5k for emergencies why don't you:

Drive to a section of the state that does have power
Purchase large quantities of canned goods that are easily re-heatable/ you don't mind eating raw
Purchase large quantity of dried goods that you don't have to cook
Purchase bottled water or even just bring a bunch of empty containers to a public tap
Buy a camp stove (If you don't have gas heating)
Buy books
Return home
Place food on shelf till you want to eat
Read books as entertainment
Done, all in all It'll probably cost you maybe $400 to do all that.

Also, why is all your food spoiled? The hurricane knocked out my power on Saturday afternoon and I stayed without power till Tuesday evening. I checked this morning and the only thing that went bad was some pieces of meat I had defrosted and left in the fridge on Friday.

You do know that most fridges made after 1980 are designed to hold cold, no problem, for a day and a half right? As long as you don't open the door you don't lose cool, so why would you open the door? Is this the first time you had a power outage ever?

Heck, I had to move back in with my mom because her power was out as well but she didn't have an electric stove and out greatest expenditure was gas to just drive around town since we were bored. I think we only ate out about 3 times.
