/jp/, I want to seriously learn Japanese. I want to be able to write, read, and speak it. What is the best way to go about doing this? Would preferably like to have responses from people somewhat fluent that have gone through such a thing. I've downloaded Rosetta Stone and tried a lesson. Seems pretty good. There's no rush in doing this.

I can understand the general idea of a conversation but have no understanding of a single written symbol. My experience is almost entirely from 100's of subtitled animes.
