Anime industry is in a strange spot right now. You have blockbusters like the EVA movies, K-ON, Haruhi, etc. which do very well, and then you still have the generic low-brow kind that eat up the morning hours.

Anime can't die when Pretty Cure is still around at least. Money wise everything is tight everywhere and no one really is making much bank, so it's not suprising.

Anime tends to do well no matter how little budget it actually has, OP's pic is a great example.
