Utsuho is a good character for beating down scrubs. However, in high level play, she tends to get destroyed easily by half of the cast.

Take a good Okuu player, and pit him against an average Iku player. The Iku player will dominate the Okuu player quite easily, assuming the Iku player actually knows how to play.

Utsuho is just an everything-crusher. I used to watch Japanese UNL tournaments on nicovideo yeah, yeah, I know... She could easily win most every matchup. The only characters that could truly match her were Suika, Yuyuko, and to some extent Youmu. Everyone else had a tendency to get absolutely slaughtered

Subterranean Sun was simply too good at changing the fight in Utsuho's favor, and her combos did excruciating amounts of damage. All an enemy had to do was screw up once and Utsuho would accidentally half his health

There's various sorts of wings on touhoes. Tiny ones like Remilia's, or oddly shaped like Flandre's and Cirno's are clearly decorative, but Okuu has huge, normal-looking wings. It looks like they might be intended to actually work.

I like to think that for the most part, most wings just make it easier to control flight at high speeds and perhaps provide other flying benifets. Wings basically being like a sports car while no wings being like a regular car.

It also explains why some touhous, such as aya don't always have their wings out, because they don't need to. Aya wouldn't need to stabilize her flying unless she is going fast, like when it actually gets dangerously fast. Flans wings though would probably do next to nothing though, maybe help a very tad bit for stabilization but nothing really. I can't see them flapping their wings for flight.

Okuu threads sure have been in high demand for the past year or so. It's kind of funny because I haven't even had the opportunity to make one myself for over the past half year because every time I think about making one soon, one has already popped up.
