Japan's greatest achievement is still only catching up to the rest of the world in a relatively short amount of time. Their second greatest achievement is rebuilding the country after a virtually complete defeat after WWII. But their bubble economy was only significant for ten or twenty years, which really isn't that much and already long gone history, like the Soviet Union.

If contemporary pop culture (music, games, gadgets, toys, manga, anime) is the standard used to rank countries for comparison then Japan is the America of Asia.
