Masamune's wives show up whether you're attacking or defending. You just need to fight a few battles with the Dokuganryu clan, until you get scenes where they show up one by one and announce that they're going to battle. The last one, Omachi, should have shown up by the time you're done with their first province.

The wives might not show up for a while if you're using battle permits to take over their territory quickly. The automatic wins don't really kill the enemy clan's troops, so they'll still have a lot of generic mooks to throw at you.

If you kill a lot of the youkai grunts by fighting manually, they won't have much to send at you besides the wives and their bodyguards. You can capture them easily then.

To be fair, a lot of his victims are spoiled princesses who, frankly, had it coming.

Other times it's sort-of rape because although they agree to it, it's under duress.

Thing is, what Rance is doing isn't rape, really. Technically, the girls are saying "no" and so on, but say Kanami's first sex scene in Sengoku... she says "no", yeah, but she's still on all fours, naked, apparently without any resistance or even Rance doing this for her. She enjoys it and there's no sign of being traumatised whatsoever after. It's more like reluctant sex, or sex where the girls give up when Rance insists, despite not wanting it so much. It's pretty cute and not bad at all.

Real rape is a different matter entirely. There's a reason it's called sexual violence, after all. On top of forced penetration, which is awful in itself (it can lead to bleeding and tears in the tissue that can be serious and leave scarring, not to even mention the psychological pain), there can be and often is stuff like death threats, holding a knife to the victim's throat or a gun to their head, banging their head to the wall, hitting them if they try to resist, defiling or injuring the victim's genitals and so on. The victim is often fearing for their very life, which is a very tough situation without the criminal also invading your most private dimension and treating you as less than human. Rape is a form of violence that on top of hurting the victim physically also humiliates and degrades them mentally and rids them of their right to self control, which can lead to life-long trauma disorders and depression. Because most rapists are people the victim knows, many continue to live in fear of further violence after the crime. It's just... not from the same world as eroge/doujinshi/porn "rape" at all. It's a horrible crime.

You can't really use the word "rape" to describe both. Rape? One of the most horrible things a person can do to another. Rance "rape"? Fap fap fap, and I don't even feel bad about it. I don't think I have any reason to.

tl;dr: If you really realise what rape is, calling what Rance does rape feels a bit silly. Real rape is awful, though.

Rance's setting is one savage and cruel.
Is his rape cruel ? Yep, he's merciless and won't spare even lovers or married couples.
Is he borderline evil ? No, while he's a bastard, women getting raped by him have it easy considering they could've become plaything to the local army after every man was killed, sold into slavery and/or killed.

I don't find anything you've said to be interesting to me. The only Total War I played was Shougun(1), and I certainly didn't play it for the story. I played it to conquer stuff. Having to read a bunch of scenes between would really annoy me.
