And the anatomy in that piece doesn't show any actual errors beyond the obvious characteristics of being a sketch, as anyone who ever did any sort of illustration outside of life drawing can see. That's not to say that there aren't any areas that could become a problem if they wouldn't receive sufficient attention in finishing - but to confuse those with actual bad understanding of anatomy would betray you as just an utter amateur who knows nothing more than basic theory.

That is the definition being used. By your definition, if someone punched you in the face, and said he hated you, that would be criticism. Criticism is literally to judge something by it's merits and faults, to the artist so that they correct it and become better.

This is how artists actually grow, if you're any smart artist you crave criticism because you realize you arn't amazing (I never think i'm an amazing artists). Pic related, first feeling drawfags get when faced with bad critique.

Generally from his own point of a view, a drawfag can't see what's wrong with his own work. A quick "lol that's shit" doesn't help matters because you actually have to grab his head and point his nose at what's wrong, then explain why it's wrong(with something akin to a redline). If the redline/critique/whatever does indeed improve the quality and the drawfag still refutes it, it's his own fault for basically refusing to improve.

That said, "devArtshit" and the like do not improve anything in any way. If one is going to critique, smash it into the ground if you want, but throw in a "oh and your arm is crooked" or something to learn by, or you end up with threads like this.

I think it really depends on what you want to draw. Some people do some great deformed/animu anatomy with a lot of charm. Some people may want to do their characters doing dynamic poses with muscular bodies. In any case, some basic anatomy does help in the long run. I've personally felt that I've improved on my coloring for characters dramatically after applying some basic logic from life.

Of course YMMV but it certainly should give people a good foundation.

Drawing from life isn't about anatomy. That's almost completely separate. And just as necessary, to a degree.
It's about learning to perceive and draw complex organic three-dimensional forms using perspective and foreshortening.
Sure you CAN skip it.
But if you want to do anything but a couple stock poses from a fixed point of view(and a lot of western artists seem to confuse drawing "Japanese cartoons" with just that)or super deformed characters, it won't save you any effort - you will just have to find another way to learn that stuff, and there's a fair chance that it'll will be more time consuming.

You know why I think they're like that? It's because faggots who know nothing of art, and I mean technical art and not the "eye of the beholder" BS art, used to(I haven't gone there in few of years now so I don't know if this still happens) post their OC DO NOT STEAL characters there constantly. When given criticism, usually those "artists" would respond with "IT'S MY STYLE". After awhile, typing a long critique becomes redundant. It's true you need to know the rules before you can break them. However drawing from life does not making you a great artist. Skill can be learned by anyone with the time to practice. Talent, passion is something inside you.

Her right knee looks really thin at first glance. It's clearly a stylistic thing to draw her very thin, but the thigh is creating a contrast with that. The knee is also facing a bit too much to her left. Widen the knee a bit to her left.

If you have a real 3d person or object in front of you, it is much easier to represent that accurately in 2d than an imaginary 3d person or object in your head. When you have the real thing in front of you, more variables are controlled and you only have to focus on understanding the space you can see and rendering it accurately. I'm simply stuck because I can't find reasons to draw anything properly. Everything I want myself can be accomplished with a mere sketch that I often do not even care to post anywhere. Finishing anything has become almost an impossibility. Alrighty, ignoring the recent shitstorming, let me know what you think about this idea.

To try to make up for the noticeable lack of Mima in Ten Desires, I'm thinking of making a Mima player character in Danmakufu. Someone already did her appearance in Mystic Square, so I'll make it be her appearance in Something of Lasers. It'll be based more or less loosely on the ship from Border Down (aka that one really OP one in GuwangeDash). Unfocused shot'll be a combination single straight laser which may or may not be piercing (doesn't really matter for most Danmakufu scripts anyways) combined with homing curvy lasers shot retrograde. Focused shot will be a set of straight lasers in parallel, also may or may not be piercing (though probably less likely than unfocused is). Focused bomb will be based on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkDT-OlkYTI or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adSyxkbUUwA , unfocused bomb may be based on picrelated because it's amusing and also lasers.

If I'm feeling ambitious, I might also add a recharging energy system and a main cannon bound to C that uses energy, powering down the standard shot if you use it too much in a fashion similar to the aforementioned Border Down ship or the ship in ALLTYNEX 2nd.

A way to avoid that when using digital tools is to not use Ctrl+Z at all, just pick the color nearby and repaint the part you made mistake on (except if you accidentally make a huge stroke across the canvas, of course). While this takes a lot of time and efforts, your drawing/painting skill can improve along with your stroke accuracy and learning to think before making a stroke etc.

Just do that for small exercises and you should get better at it.

Every time an OC thread was made right after the previous one hit image limit or bump limit, it was shit. Think of it as a tradition. It's good so artists can pile up their works, people won't have to 'bump' the thread because it is actually dying out of the lack of content.
