Hi guys, Touhou Moon's project leader here!

Um, I wouldn't call the project dead, persay...but I also wouldn't expect anything from it anytime particularly soon! I still really want to make it, so don't worry, it will see the light of day. Just not in the very near future.

Sorry!

I can tell you, however, that I have some great ideas after playing Rune Factory 3 which are going to require me to redo some parts of the design aspect, and I may need to find new team members because like half of them disappeared and don't reply to emails.

That's not very surprising I'm sure.

It's going to be a Harvest Moon game set in Gensokyo. There will be dungeons of a sort, kinda like the areas in rune factory 3 where all the monsters were. I haven't really figured out yet how I want to do combat. Obviously danmaku needs to be involved, but I am thinking about whether I could balance JUST danmaku with JUST melee weapons, or if I should make it a mix? Perhaps replace weapons with spellcards? I do not know. It's going to require some thought. The original plan was to release characters that you could marry one game at a time, starting with EoSD's cast. That is now subject to change. Most of the other characters that we originally announced probably will not change, since they were chosen because they fit into their roles pretty much perfectly(shopkeepers and such that would be required to play the game at all).

Rune Factory 3 had a good balance of farming, characters, and dungeon crawling of a sort. That's what I want to be able to accomplish with this.

Hopefully that answered your question.

More or less a Rune Factory/Harvest Moon game with a Gensokyo twist!

>> No.7517935

So you're still in the concept phase? Yeah, that won't be going anywhere.

Hm.

Well when I asked for 'the general scope of what you'll be doing and it's structure' I was looking more for an answer like this:

Harvest Moon:
Wake up ---> Tend to fields/Go gathering materials/Build relationships/Feed animals/Participate in Events ---> Go to bed

In a game, there is generally a single thing you repeat over and over that makes up the core of the gameplay. What exactly do you intend to have the player do over and over in a Touhou Harvest moon? I'm not sure how dungeons work in Rune Factory, but why not have the player enter a 'Dungeon' wherein it switches to a Danmaku type game where you have to kill certain monsters for materials and use those materials once you leave for stuff on your farm? It's kind of like how Persona 4 had the going into the tv for combat stuff and then returning to the normal world for other things. You just need to pick whether the harvest moon elements or the danmaku elements will be the focus.

Hopefully this doesn't sound like a weird ramble

>> No.7518016

>>7517993
If you can do a decent danmaku gameplay, that sounds like a good idea.
And with the farming elements, will it stay a basic harvest moon/rune factory thing or will you use magic to do stuff?

This isn't a /jp/ project at all but a project I made for my kind of Introduction to PHP class, but hey, it has touhoes.

http://tim.cstj.net/mathieuauclair/tob/

Planned to be a bit like an online touhoumon where you battle others in semi-live battles and go to places in gensokyo, maybe have some touhou-specific events, stuff like that.

For the moment there isn't much to do other than wait for someone and battle, but well, at least it works.

Obviously the sprites aren't mine, they're from touhou pocket wars and some effect sprites from touhou 10.5. This is allowed now because it's for "educational purposes", or so I heard, so I guess I'd have to change them to do anything more, but I don't plan on releasing this or anything.

Yeah, the first two Suikoden games. Some type of major catastrophe rips open the barrier of Gensokyo and shreds it, mixing everyone up and leading to invading forces from other worlds. Reimu would be killed during the catastrophe.
Storywise you'd begin a few months after the catastrophe, the great Hakurei barrier has managed to recover enough to produce a new Shrine maiden in order to restore balance but due to a lack of energy/stability it instead resurrects Reimu.
Game starts with Reimu in the destroyed shrine at the edge of Gensokyo. You encounter Suika, who had been left there by Yukari to gather the energy of the Shrine Maiden. After a brief exposition on what had happened since the catastrophe Reimu and Suika set off to gather the Gensokyo of old to beat back the invaders and restore the barrier.
Gameplay wise would be a lot like Suikoden, a focus on sidequests and recruiting all Touhous for the best ending. Along the way you'd have to fight, beat and recruit various factions of course. Of course there would be team attacks, etc. The sad thing is have actually designed systems for the game in a notepad while riding on the train.

HERE COMES DAREDEVIL

>> No.7520973

Well just tried out this game. Ended up with a Patchy. Named her Knowledge. Randomly tried out a match with little idea what to do since the interface is kind of fucked up for me. However still won when I realized her danmaku was overly powerful. Turned the tide in a match against an Iku pretty much just spamming the danmaku button against her. After that I checked her stats.

Her stats are 112(HP)+85(SPD)+89(DEF)+113(MDEF)+132(MP)+87(DEX)+94(ATK)+138(MATK)=850.

She's got some absurdly powerful MATK there. No wonder I won.

After a bit more time playing this game I've come to the conclusion that the Iku was just bad. Played a Mokou and an Aya. Lost handily to both, but only played each of them once.

The Iku however I've faced like 5 times and won each time now. I'm going to make some more accounts to see some other stat generations. Patchy can't evade for shit or defend against melee for shit.

I've played vs the same Iku, not sure whether it's his fault, but her attacks do pitiful damage so you really have to pick your spots. I think it would be interesting playing as Sakuya, she has more options since she can actually evade and defend.

I don't want to hear none of that whining. At this point, the only thing slower than Hina must be Yuuka.
All of the characters seem to be fairly well balanced though. So far, even with "the best" character, I've lost handily to each and every single person.

I was expecting to lose with Murasa due to her incredibly crappy stats, but ended up winning against UncleMugen as a Youmu.

Made another batch:
Kaguya(141+90+93+72+121+83+90+149=839)
Fought three battles and lost them all, couldn't hit a Nazrin for shit due to it evading all the time and a Suwako to a lesser degree, and then an Alice which just felt better overall in every area. Despite her very high MATK danmakuing did not go well and didn't produce high damage as expected.
Kanako(119+101+120+106+108+96+112+76=838)
Fought three battles, won the first, but lost the next two. She dodged many times in times in the first battle for some reason.
Alice(100+88+90+88+138+156+103+90)
Five battles, lost first, second, and fourth, won third and fifth. Despite very high dex, dodges were not managed often. However the fifth battle was against that Nazrin that kept dodging against my Kaguya. She didn't manage to dodge once against Alice. Which makes me think DEX contributes to accuracy.

Get high attack/high evade and win every time. Shots are useless, because you'll run out of mp in a waiting game. If Attack lost power the weaker your HP, then it might make a difference. The moment you use up your MP, shot does like 3 damage.

Interesting concept, but this is basically playing a stacked RPS game. Attack is useless unless you have high evade, shoot is useless unless you're facing a charger with low evade or have god-tier mind gaming, defense is only useful for seeing what your first opponent's attack is (to judge their style), and evade is only useful once you aren't facing a chargeadin and can guesstimate their shot spread.

It's mostly luck, though, especially since chargeadins can just shit past all your shots, and you can't attack them for more damage, meaning you could literally get high attk/evd and stomp anyone that doesn't have god-tier dex by just mashing attack.

I'm assuming speed contributes to evade %. Speed is great when you have a lot of it like Sakuya. Evade becomes a powerful variance play when you have a character with high speed. It also is awesome when you have a character with low speed because you know those missing stats have been shunted to others.

It's worst to have a character with middling speed, sure you have the occasional troll dodge but it's not enough to warrant ever picking evade other than out of sheer desperation. The game is not really a rock-paper-scissors because scissors is missing, so you can't be punished for lacking speed and almost never picking evade.

Didn't play much this time, but I tried the Sakuya for three battles, lost the first two and won against a Suika that kept trying to evade and only succeeding at evading once out of 6 tries.

It seems that stat generation is tied with which touhou you get or vice versa possibly.

Alice's characteristics are very high MP and fantastic DEX.

Remilia's are very high ATK and high MATK.

Well, shot, evd, dodge. Dodge (theoretically) leaves the opponent worse off, since shot becomes useless without mp. If you kill their shot, then you can shoot them with impunity, throwing in troll charges when you guess that there's a dodge coming.

Needless to say, once you eliminate their shot, their options become a great deal more limited. Evd against a shot character is also a good lure for getting them to charge. Bait them in, and then charge when you think they'll charge, too. Assuming you have the higher attack, you win out, and frustrate them.

This doesn't necessarily follow. You could claim any game with hit chance is 'mostly luck', by that logic.

I also think maybe playing as Sanae may have colored your judgment. Sanae has pretty weak danmaku, and shots seem to cockblock melee more often than not.

Touhou battle thingy dev here, I didn't expect this when I went to sleep a few hours ago and there was nobody online.
I figure everyone noticed but I changed the shitty player list before going, and added win/loss.
I'm going to continue working on this since it has some attention, going for the xp/level up stuff. My plan is to make it so it's still possible to beat players 10+ levels up, and have a lot of reward for doing so. Obviously, you'll have more chance getting matched against close opponents, with level range areas later on.

About the stats and choices, the stats are given according to the base stats of each touhou, and will differ a bit. The battle system is working around the mp stat. Attack takes a little mp, shoot takes more, and defend or evade takes none and thus recharges your mp. When processing a turn, ALL stats are capped at your mp times 3. Defend works better against attacks and evade has better chance against bullets. Evade may seem useless, but like in any game, it's a random factor. The exact chance range, right now, is from 10% to 80% with default to 40% (dex==spd) and going into a gaussian curve according to the dex/spd difference, each stat being mp capped. This is likely to change as I myself found evade to success not often enough.

Looking forward to feedback and stuff. Anyone encountered bugs? I saw weird stuff happening at the end of battles when playing online, like connection lost or buttons overlapping, though it might've been the server.

Low total, but not that bad. Also it seems regular attacks take MP and how much depends on power like danmaku. I can win in a battle of attrition with low HP apparently when my opponent gets to too low MP to finish me off since my Nazrin's shitty attack consumes practically no MP. However bad luck will probably still get me killed if I don't manage much dodging near the end. Managed to fight off Suigin with like 4 HP though he won the match before that.

Been playing Keine, here's something I noticed (it might be obvious but it took me a while to realize):
If both you and your opponent are low on HP & MP, it's usually more effective to evade your enemy's attack on the first turn and shoot on the second than shoot on both, even if you get hit. It appears that attacks get very weak if you're too low on MP.

Any game whose mechanics can be reduced to attack1/attack2/defend, and the success of those choices is reduced to RNG, can easily be accused of being primarily luck reliant. Even the stat system is luck incarnate, because you're fucked if you get someone built to rape you, and that's a matter of chance as to who you play/Touhou you start with.

I guess it's actually more like Texas Hold'em, in that there's an element to bluffing your opponent and beating them (shot/evd mind games), but your real chance of success is in the cards in your hand and the community, which is uncontrollable.

It's not a real complaint or anything since I'm winning a lot more than I lose, but scissors is missing in the RPS system. Since it's set up the way it is, there is a dominant strategy. To reset it, you would need the equivalent of a fighting game's 'throw' or 'guard crush', an attack that leaves you more vulnerable but breaks 'defend' as the dominant pick.

Depends on what you call top of the scoreboards. If around 50% wins with a load of matches played is what you mean then okay. Wallabe's hina stats are crazy, I picked 100% correctly vs her when she failed to evade anything and still lost through attrition. Defend? OK, take 35 damage.

>> No.7521791

I didn't say how important I thought they were. It's just that they're luck-based: which Touhou you get, and which your opponent has. Some of my first matches were ones that people considered "overpowered," and I beat them. Hell, mugen was my second fight, and I whipped his ass.

There's definite mind gaming going on, but it's the same sort of mind gaming that goes on in RPS. The only issue is that in RPS, if you mind game correctly, you'll win on the flop. In this, you can identify it correctly and still get randomly fucked over.

I SHOT BULLET, BUT HE DODGED AND HIT ME FOR 40 DAMAGE.

And the ever-fun "EVADE SHOT, NO SLUT TAKE IT IN FACE." Good work, Sanae.

I'm impressed by the maker's work, though. I hope you go far with your efforts in the real world. It's not polished by any stretch of the imagination, but it's survived /jp/'s stress testing so far.

Right, I didn't talk about that. Right now, no, although I could give touhous to people using commands, but of course later you'll be able to get more touhous of your choice by capturing them, in the spirit of pokemon. You'll get the stats as they are too. Capturing won't be too easy either. I'm still not sure about capturing from other players yet.
