Why is baseball so popular in Japan?

>> No.7510184

Because their legs are short.

>> No.7510183 [DELETED]

>> No.7510198

Because it's kind of neat.

>> No.7510210

because the american pigs made them play it after dropping 2 nukes on htem

>> No.7510223

Have you ever played baseball? It's fucking fun, and Japan has great weather for it.

>> No.7510226

Early 1900's, Japanese businessmen founded teams to show how wealthy and westernized they were.

>> No.7510236

Baseball was introduced early on during Japan's modernization. There were various reasons for it's spread. One, to show that they were receptive to western ideas (Remember, the US had forced Japan open to trade and it needed to change it's image). Two, to compete with western nations on an equal level (Remember, Japan wanted to be seen as an equal to the western powers of the time. Three, there was a lot of prestige in taking part in either playing or founding teams. (Universities in particular.)

It's been a part of their culture for over 100 years now, so I think that could explain it's prevalence there.

>> No.7510246

Definitely NOT because they thought the game is good.

I know this is the last place to ask this, but is there anywhere I can watch streams of NPB games?

No problem. You learn something new every day.

Who's your team, man? I have to know.

DA Bears unfortunately. Well unfortunately is what I'd normally say but you seem to be a fan of the Lions.

I'm sorry, we can't be friends anymore

Just kidding. It's always nice to find people that like football on /jp/.

You do know the Lions are on the rise, right?

...and you lucked out last season. I'll be looking forward to MNF.

I just hope there is a season.

I will say I enjoy watching Jahvid Best, he is going to be great.

>> No.7514359

>>7514335

There will be. I've been following all the lockout news like my life depended on it and the tide's definitely changing. Details of a proposed CBA have even been leaked and more talks are scheduled for tomorrow in Boston.

>Jahvid Best

Best is a beautiful man when his toes aren't being eaten by demonic weasels. Even then he can do some pretty neat things, like in Miami.

Would you be interested in joining a /jp/ fantasy football league, by the way? I'm thinking of starting one.

As long as you aren't cowboys fans then you're good with me.

Hail to the Redskins

Absolutely, if you think you can get enough people here.

>> No.7514383

Well, I've got until August to find at least 6 more guys to make an 8-man (or bigger) league. I'm not going to really start worrying about it until this whole lockout mess is over, though.
