Dear /jp/, I just finished Yume Nikki,
and am deeply confused, please help. What does it all mean?
Sincerely, Anon.

You had major depression, stemming from a bunch of shit that happened to you. And then you committed suicide/spontaneously recovered by casting aside your delusions.

She realizes how isolated she really is, and this isolation is represented by things she encounters in her dreams; notably the encounter with the stranger on the train. This stranger is representative of all the people she sees every day but can not interact with, similar to strangers on a real train.

Over time, she starts to meet very kind beings (those who give her effects). After getting all 25 effects, she realizes just how much more fantastic and exciting this dream world is compared to her lonely reality. As such, she decides that it is better to live forever in the world of dreams; she enters an eternal state of slumber by killing herself.

OP here. What I'm confused about really, is where people are getting all of these interpretations about rape and being not Japanese and various other things. Is this ever actually said or implied or are people just seeing meaning where there isn't any?

I want to say no, but:

1) Yui has a CHERRY SUNBURST Les Paul.
2) She basically acted the same way I did when I was learning to play guitar back in the day.

I am confused about it. I personally can't stand Mio, though. I have no idea why she's so popular.

Madotsuki is a conflicted individual.
She is a NEET, hikkimori and was probably bullied.
She just decided to commit suicide at the end since even her dreams are bullying her.

the rape part probably comes from the part with phallic symbols followed by scary faces.

>> No.7417723

>>7417630
I have no clue about the not being Japanese thing, but as for rape, a lot of people have seen a lot of phallic symbols or things they have interpreted as such, and things they believe appear to represent pregnancy and such. It's really all about how you interpret things.

>> No.7417730

The game represents depression and isolation as a whole and all the different reasons and aspects of it. They didn't all happen to Madotsuki, she's simply a WINDOW into the world of depression. If things in the game really have meaning, which I think they do, it would be hard for all of these things to happen to one single person.

This is my opinion of the game.

The foreigner-in-Japan theory comes from the fact that she has a Japanese-style apartment, but a western bed. She doesn't speak any Japanese, so on top of being poor with people, even if she tried, the language barrier would get in the way, so she shuts herself indoors. There were some other things that the Japanese pointed out that more or less made sense regarding this, but I don't remember them.

yes, if raped enough, her mind would break and she will crave cocks instead of dreaming about her dream world which leads to her suicide. she'll be a cumdumpster forever chained to a cock.

like what hentai taught us.

It's up for interpretation, which is why it's so beautiful.
Just think, in general, of depression and isolation and trauma.

Personally I believe that she commit suicide because she wanted to escape reality and be with the creatures of her dreams forever.

Kikiyama probably got bored/lazy in the end and figured that suicide is a proper ending. And I agree, it is much better than the cliché good endings we get these days.
