Finished the partial patch awhile ago. Think it took me maybe 8 hours to get through. Chapter 8 must be pretty small if this is only 50%. I thought the puzzle parts would take me longer but it was not so.

And on a side note

Yeah, I also thought that there must be only 1 culprit at first. But there are only few people who could have done that, if you misinterpret the rules a little (I read it in Japanese). Actually, right at the very start (either right before you start solving or as the first hint), they say you can assume that there are accomplices. Add to that the fact that they keep mentioning 'a culprit' instead of 'the culprit', plus the definition as 'one who murders', and it's pretty obvious there's multiple culprits.
What annoyed me was that the George's family theory didn't work when you solve it. I wasted three guesses on that, just to have Erika prove later that it's a perfectly valid solution.

George could be a culprit because it's defined as 'one who murders', he doesn't need to have murdered somebody on 1986 Rokkenjima, as long as he's murdered somebody.

>>7340631
No, there's only two answers that can be reached through that logic.
Krauss and Natushi were confirmed dead in second twilight, so they couldn't have helped Jessica beyond that. That only leaves Battler, George and Maria as potential culprits. It was explicitly stated that after the second twilight, the first twilight culprit has killed 6 people. Exactly 6; not five, not seven, SIX. This rules out Maria + Rosa, as Rosa would have to kill 5 in the first twilight and 2 in the second twilight.

This leaves only George + family and Battler + family as potential culprits.

Ep 1-4 were mysteries, Beatrice's games, that you need to solve. Chiru episodes just provide hints and answers. The mystery part was solved in ep7. Entire episode is dedicated to explaining the back story and motives of the culprit, with Will finally solving it at the end and properly putting Beatrice to sleep.

>If that's the case then I'm having a very mixed feeling about it right now. I mean, what's the point in solving anything anymore if there just isn't 1+1=2 answer ?
If you ask such questions it's doubtful that you even thought about it at all, much less were "solving".

The culprits in "real world" were different, than in mystery fictional stories, that Beatrice presented you. There probably was no mystery in real world. "The real world" mostly concerns just Ange, it's just a subplot and there's nothing to solve there.

Umineko got way too meta for its own good. Everything is fictional or symbolic or a lie from an unreliable narrator who is himself fictional or symbolic, and there's just nothing left for the reader to attach himself to. The various games, purportedly solvable, apparently never happened on any level, leaving open the question why anyone should bother. There was also a real world event which either is or isn't solvable, or maybe it's what happened in ep 7, or maybe not, and Ryukishi sure as fuck isn't going to tell us. I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to do here, other than be grateful I pirated this M. Shyamalan level overambitious trainwreck.

In episode 7, it is revealed Episode 1-4 are fictional stories made up by Yasu. They never actually took place. The culprit in those stories is Shkanon/Yasu.

After the 1986 Rokkenjima incident, countless people made up countless stories about what could've happened on that island. Every single game was a what-if story about the Rokkenjima incident. 1-2 are confirmed to be written by Yasu, 3-4 are implied to be written by Yasu, 5-6 are implied to be written by Hachijo Touya or however you spell it. Episode 7 explains all of this, and reveals the culprit of ep1-4 to be Yasu. Ep5's culprit remains unknown because the game ended prematurely. Ep6's culprit is Erika.

Episode 8 is all about how nobody knows what truly happened during the 1986 Rokkenjima incident. Therefore, the meta-version of 1986 Rokkenjima (the version as viewed from multiple dimensions) is one where any all and possibilities are true at the same time, and is therefore called the 'cat box' (read up on Schrodinger's Cat to find out what they mean by that).

At ~50% of episode 8, Ange finds out that Eva, the only 1986 Rokkenjima survivor has written down what really happened during the Rokkenjima incident in her diary (the 'Book of Single Truth'). This new truth would eliminate all other possibilities, thus destroying the cat box.

Pic related: It's what Ryukishi07 thinks about people like you. Even if ep1-6 are fictional in-story, they're still mysteries. Don't stop thinking.[/spoilers].

There is a difference between the emotional impacts of something that's fake but pretends to be real, and something that's fake and at every turn points out its fakeness. I'm sure you're really smart and definitely knew about the fiction theory when you read 1-5 episodes, which are the core of the story, and it made it uninteresting for you.

In ep6 and ep7 the 3rd level of "fakeness" (side characters of the story on the gameboard) becomes obsolete and the story focuses on revealing the answer, all sides and back story of the main character - Beatrice. Even though everything is revealed on the 2nd level of "fakeness", it's still relevant to the past reality, that drove Yasu to that day.

ep8 serves as a closure for the series and Ange's subplot.

I didn't when they first came out, but I did when it was spelled out in later episodes. Before that I thought trying to solve the games would be a worthwhile endeavor. Afterwards, I fail to see why I should bother. If they're not real even in the context of the story, who gives a good goddamn what happened in them? Didn't EP8 state that EP1 and EP2 were message bottles written by Beato? That makes Yasu the culprit for those, and not for EP3 and EP4
And Yasu can't possibly be the only culprit. Looking back on Bern's game in EP8, you definitely need accomplices to manage to get closed rooms like that. And Bern's game was almost exactly the same as EP1, so we can be 99% sure that Yasu had at least 2 accomplices.

At least she carried out the 1st twilight of ep3 and Nanjo's murder. With the rest probably being Eva.
Maybe ep4 was done by Kyrie or someone, but at least she was alive long ago to kill her and insert stake in her skull.
She had three main accomplices: Genji, Kumasawa and Nanjo. Also whomever she buys with her jewgold, like Eva-Hideyoshi in ep1 or Rosa in ep2.

>do witches exist
You're fucking retarded if you think this is still a possibility.

>So....who did all the murder in ep 1?

Yasu. It's a fiction, like EP2, so it never actually happened, but if you go through each event with Shkannontrice as the culprit then you can fully explain the entirety of EP1 with human tricks.

>secretly hates her daughter
That never happened.
>wants to massacre her son
She doesn't really wants to massacre anyone, unless you stand in her way. Too bad if you do.
>doesn't even know that she got her kid babyswapped
How's it her fault?

Wasn't there, like, ten times more interest when the 50% patch for episode seven came out?

I guess people still had hopes for EP8 to salvage some of the train wreck

that was before people finally realized how umineko was never going to salvage the fuckhole of a story it had made itself into.

What's there to discuss? Puzzle answers?
Ep7 had a lot of actual story. And with 50% patch you could even speculate about it.
Ep8 you should just read to enjoy. There are some points worthy of discussion, but they are almost all in the second half.
