Why is she boiling water in a beaker with an ethanol burner? I mean, first of all, having an open flame in a library is a terrible idea. Can someone say "fire hazard"? Even setting that aside, those burners don't put out a lot of heat. Sure, a Bunsen burner would be able to boil water like that no problem, but an ethanol burner? That's like trying to boil water with a candle. It's going to take forever. The thing is though, even if she did get the water boiling, do you have any idea how hot the beaker is going to be? Glass is a pretty good heat conductor. Even at the rim, that beaker is going to be close to 100C (that's 212F for those of you who like imperial units). It's certainly not something that you'd want to touch with your bare hands. She needs an oven mitt if she intends on actually pouring that water into her mug.
