Soon I'll have access to an 3D printer at school, and we will have to test it out and Yes our teacher allows us to use it for personal stuff for a minor payment of the material it uses.
Is there any site where I can find already done 3D anime/manga figures to print out?

I don't know, but...

It begins! Figurine piracy is starting. Future of otaku industries looks bleak indeed.

True that, I thought more fanmade 3D models myself. I'll still buy the things my self just because I like the feeling of buying it.
But yes, this is most likely the start of a new age of piracy.

of course no mention of required format of the data file.

Depending on the cost, most cheap 3D printers aren't that good with filigrane details. Loading up a 3D model and then hitting print, collecting your lewd waifu an hour later is sadly a dream. Reality is, after finding a good 3D model that happens to be in the right format, doing a rough print and looking at the gross seams and blobby-ness of the result. You will most likely have to use a knife to clean and add details (fingers, hair, clothes for example are pretty hard to do), and not to mention the whole mold will be a single color, so you will have to paint it yourself as well. But at least then you will realize why good figurines are so freaking expensive.

I'm sorry for not including the fileformat. The reason for this is that I just learned today about us getting one.
All I know is this;
The school will apparently build one them self, they have bought pieces and will put it together them self. It will have multiple colours and print both plastic and silicon.
I'm in technical studies at John Bauer.

A Reprap, huh? I'll be having access to one soon as well. But like >>7297173 said, Reprap is not for printing figurines. It's just way too inaccurate. You can use it to print minor objects and plastic parts, but not for anything requiring as much precision as a figurine.

To the left: Reprap printed object. To the right: Figurine.

It's not going to work.

I guess you are right, but as I heard from the teachers this thing would write out both in that plastic and silicon, with multiple colour selection.
About the precision, it is worth a try even though your statement clearly shows it would be useless. Thank you guys anyways.

Even if the model itself is crude you could do some work on it afterwards, if you are skilled in those areas.

Never tried anything like it, but hey, it sounds fun to do on the spare-time for a month or so.

I'll post result when everything is done.
But the printer will be done in about a month....

That's seriously pretty rad.
Though, surely, not perfect even so.

But I would figure the work would be exceedingly better with higher res textures to work with, and model in general to begin with.
But it still looks pretty great.

I'd guess it would also need some retouching after printing, but yeah 3DCG models are pretty low quality. If the printer can be extremely precise the results from high poly models would be extremely different.

>> No.7297836

I've used the RepRap printers. They suck dick. More dick than sanae. You might be able to do it with a big dimension, but even then, the layers are pretty defined. Most printers use a dxf format.
