糸井さんが『ＭＯＴＨＥＲ』というゲームを
作ると聞いた時に、実に短絡的に、
このアルバムの事を思った。
このアルバムの、そぎ落とした無駄のないサウンドは、
ゲーム音楽を作る上で、
そう、音数を少なくしなければならないという状況で、
励みになった。

断片を強引に作品化したところを買おう。
で、アメリカの明るさと暗さが詰め込まれている、
ほとんどドラムレスの不思議なアルバムです。
パーカッションの使い方が、ゲームに影響大。

『スマイル』をブライアンと共同で作ろうとし、
失敗に終わった、ヴァン・ダイク・パークスの
ファーストアルバム。
またしても大失敗作と言われる。
アメリカのユーモアと、霧の中のようなサウンド、
レイ・ブラッドベリ的とでもいうかな、
そんな音が『ＭＯＴＨＥＲ』の音楽を作る時に重要だった。
当時60年代末の西海岸、
ワーナー、バーバンク系サウンドは、
アメリカを代表する音楽を作っていたと思うが。
ランディ・ニューマンも含めて。

ビーチボーイズは、
いままでの対談で何度もでてきてますが
ブライアン・ウィルソンのソロアルバムです。
このＣＤ、『ＭＯＴＨＥＲ』の開発で
世田谷の慶一さんのお宅におじゃまする道中
いつも聞いてました。
ちょっと早く着きすぎた時は
これ聞きながら近所をブラブラと‥‥。
田中、個人的には、これを聞くと
『ＭＯＴＨＥＲ』を思い出します。
特に
1）love and mercy
3）melt away
4）baby let your hair grow long
7）there's so many
彼のソングライティングは、一見、
普通に見えるんだけどね、
なんでしょうね‥‥言葉にならないですね‥‥。
詩もわかると、もっとキ！ます。
んーー客観的に書けないや‥‥‥‥。

（新しくDelux Edition がでてて、
　デモが入ってて、それがまたねぇ、
　‥‥くぅーー‥‥）

通称「マイブラ」！ノイズ混じりの不安定に鳴り続ける
騒音のようなギター、消えそうな歌、打ち込みのリズム。
もう好き好き好き。未だにこのフォロアー的音を出す
バンドを探し聞き続けてます。
『ＭＯＴＨＥＲ２』の音楽の持ってる「揺れ」は
このバンドからの影響大。
あと「糸井さんの深夜のキーボード」。
ギーグにも。

このマイブラとあとニルヴァーナの出会いは
その後に大きく影響しました。
別に歪んだラウドなロックを聴く切っ掛けになったとか
そんなんじゃぜんぜんなく。
自分に音楽史があるとすると
ニルヴァーナ以前・以降がある、と言っていいくらい。
それぐらいカートコバーンは象徴的。
「よーぉーいーー、ドン！」の自分にとって
「ドン！」でした。

ポーキーとの戦闘で、
８小節、小ニルバーナ炸裂！！

Having made Smile with Brian and ending in failure, this was Van Dyke Parks' first album, yet another failure. It had a sound like from within a fog, a Ray Bradbury-like sound that was important when making the music for Mother. At the end of the 60's, the west coast Warner and Burbank sounds were representative of American music. Randy Newman, as well.

With My Bloody Valentine, it's the unstable and noisy guitar mixed with noise, the faint songs, and pounding rhythm. I really, really like it. I'm still listening and looking for bands that follow it. The vibration in the music of Earthbound was largely influenced by this band. Also, Itoi-san's Late Night Keyboard. Gyiyg, too.

After My Bloody Valentine, Nirvana was a big influence. It wasn't at all that it was the first time I'd heard warped, loud rock. It's more a matter of music history being divided into pre- and post-Nirvana. Kurt Cobain was just that symbolic. For me, it was the "Go!" when you say, "Ready, go!"
