Touhoumon thread?

Touhoumon thread.

>> No.7179011

Why do none of the Western hackers except the guy who made Blue version use the new sprites?

There's such a big difference in quality.

I had good fun with two Touhoumons, Puppet Play and Emerald. Forgot where I left my saves though.

There's a guy on poosh trying to make a 4th generation hack. If he doesn't randomly die like 3485484 other hackers, we might actually get something.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fywALKXYW3M
He's slowly getting there

>>7179198
There are a lot of different hacks out there but for the official version, there can be considered two "parts". The first part goes up to 1.5 and is your standard Pokemon fare. The second part goes up to 1.812 (which is the final official version for the GBA as far as I know) and completely revamps the game with a different type chart, 4th gen's Physical/Special split, branching evolutions, etc. 1.812 hasn't been fully ported to English.

Nearly all the Touhou themes have been remixed already. You just need to know which hack to download.

>> No.7179250

Why are people choosing hacking, opposed to actually programming Touhoumon, homebrew or not?

>> No.7179260

>>7179250
Consider this. Hacking some changes onto an existing game, or starting a new engine (or reusing one) and then redesigning everything all over again. Which one is more likely to work?

>> No.7179271

The problem is that there is no INCENTIVE to do any of this crap. You have to be either a 13-year-old kid with no life and no worries about getting one to spend 10+ hours a day making Touhoumon sprites and programming a game or a 30-year-old loser on disability with no job worries due to the disability check you get each month in order to produce a massive overhaul game for a limited audience.

I'll never know what motivates KoG to do what he does...

>> No.7179289

>>7179260
More likely to work? I'm not sure if that's the best word to use. Hacking is much more unstable than, well, having the source to what runs your program.
The time and effort spent taking circles to make things fit together and bypass restrictions could have been used to make something much more permanent.
It can also be less mind-numbing for the community to chip in, rather than have a few guys look at hex all day and what not.

>> No.7179290

>>7179271
Oh, with Touhoumon hacks a lot of the work is already done. Lots of the hacks are based on other hacks. Just changing things around a bit.

>> No.7179297

>>7179271

>go look up Touhoumon 2 stats
>All three of Shikieiki's final forms have a total base stat of 555

I'm sure this is a complete coincidence.

The hacking scene for the third gen is at the point where you have every tool you'll ever need, making these things a lot easier. Of course, you'll still have to learn how to script for the ROM.

>>7179271
>The problem is that there is no INCENTIVE to do any of this crap
You can say the same for anything you see in our dark corner of the Internet. Fansubbing, translating visual novels, or doing scanlations. Most of the time, none of those give you anything but e-fame. People do it anyway. Believe it or not, some people find doing these things fun.

Played some Touhoumon to kill time (Fire Red, 1.8, Emerald and Extra) and I really liked them, but they were mostly sprite/music changes, Gensokyo Ver. is a change in everything but it's untranslated and I got stuck after I beat Marisa.

Then I get to see this World Link ver (Emerald + FireRed + some extra huge ass map he made) and hot damn, sure the guy may not be very good at english but it's like 2 1/2 games in one, there's even a music house near the start of the game. My only complaint is that I can't use fly on the Kanto or ''Java'' region, instead I'm resorted to using this portals on every pokemon (or ''Boneka'') center.

Pic is from Scarlet Emerald ver.

Well yeah, but people are inevitably moving on from that, so I'm more interested in the future of Touhoumon. It just kinda bums me that I'll never see it evolve past playing Pokemon with Touhou even though it has a lot of potential to be Puppet Play with Pokemon mechanics.

>> No.7179378 [DELETED]

>>7179366
Well Extra and Gensokyo version change the whole map and characters. World Link has Hoenn at the beginning but moves onto Kanto and a new map made by the author, which is almost as long as beating Emerald.

i have a problem with this game..
i have beaten Touhou league but whenever i try to go to that you know "mewtwo cave" that guy standing in front of it says that i have not beaten Touhou league yet?
also when that happens i can see Renko standing in the cliff wall nearby the entrance?

That Renko embedded-in-the-wall is a well known bug in that version, I'm not sure if he fixed it. Check http://thmon.amarilloviridian.com/kareha/viewtopic.php?id=1&t_id=1

>> No.7179511

I've never really bothered playing the newest official version much, haven't gotten enough patience yet. It seems pretty interesting though, changing the whole type chart, items and everything that's not Kanto is almost what >>7179250 wanted. I think some versions ago the early game was terribly broken, however, with Sanae being weak to everything in the first routes.
As for the western hacks,
the fact that there are 758579438 of them, each with their own stale Touhou jokes and shit like that makes me want to never have give a damn about them.
