Upload/request music using your browser: http://skully.hopto.org

Listen to the stream using your music player: http://skully.hopto.org:8000
If it lags/fails, please connect manually to one of the relays in the second post.

FAQ: http://skully.hopto.org/playing.php?page=faq

IRC: irc.rizon.net #jp-radio

If the stream is full, please connect to one of the relay servers.
More information about the stream is in the second post.

>> No.7118432

As of right now, it's possible to upload both MP3 and OGG files, but keep in mind OGG files do not properly display their tags on the site. This means that it'd be best to remove any Japanese from an OGG file before uploading it, if possible.

As always, feedback is always appreciated. Post any error messages you get, post opinions, suggestions, whatever.

Main server holds 7 users. There are a number of relay servers up that automatically redirect you when the main server is full, so don't worry. If you are not automatically redirected, you can manually connect to them. There's a page on the main site to check what relays are currently up.

Here's a list of the currently known relay servers:

You can still submit logo's for the website. Make sure it's 300x100 and I'll make sure it's in the rotation.

Also, if you'd like to join our Skype chatroom, you can search for Jaypee Radio. Once you add that account, you should be accepted to the chatroom shortly. It may also be a nice idea to let us know in the thread that you've added the radio account, so we can get to your request faster.

/jp/ Radio is created for /jp/, by /jp/. If you guys have any questions whatsoever, feel free to ask them in this thread.

Take it easy, Anon.
Enjoy the stream!

Personally, I think (for example) toho cocktail is a great song and it would be a waste to just ban songs that are longer then 10 minutes (for example). The system still requires only 5 skip votes to skip a song. Last time, there were about ~20 listeners during toho cocktail. Are you guys just too lazy to press the skip button? Maybe I could dynamically change the amount of skips required according to how long the song has been playing (like, only require 3 skips for the last 30 minutes).

>It's a wonder people DON'T press it on these songs.
Let's break it down. A song is playing. You do not like this song. You submit a skip vote. The song does not skip. That means a number of people greater than the total amount of listeners minus 4 is currently enjoying the song, or is indifferent enough not to submit a skip vote.

I should also add that, unless there are 10 or less listeners, only a MINORITY VOTE is needed to skip the song. It's not even based on a percentage of the current amount of listeners. A small, static amount of votes is need, and that's it. Since the complaints here are about not being able to skip long songs (or even just songs the person doesn't like), we can deduce that these people are the MINORITY. They were in situations where most of the radio listeners did not share their opinion. Since Pyonta seems to think there have been alot of complaints, it would be fair to call them a VOCAL MINORITY.

Pyonta, will it be possible for a vocal minority to abuse the report system?

Personally I don't mind mixes that are 10+/- minutes as long as it's actual music being played.
A couple of exceptions being Konata's Healing Spring, which would be fine if it was cut down to 2/3 minutes, and also a couple of the really long boris songs which seem to be nothing more than him strumming one or two guitar chords with some amp feedback for an hour.

Although I usually just switch over to my own library when they come on since I figure someone wanted to listen to them so I guess someone likes them.

>> No.7144149

>>7144116
What bothers me the most isn't the songs themselves, they're wonderful if you want to pick them up and listen to them separately. But when a song falls like that on the queue, it completely blocks the other requests while the song is playing, not to mention I would actually like to actually listen to entire songs, not a random mash-up of 5 second NND popular songs on a huge audio clip.

It's like an omelette that went seriously wrong, and now it can't decide if it has cheese, onions, or salami.

Then again, if people like stuff like this, I cannot possibly fight the wave. I just think a radio is much more dynamic when there's different tracks playing. Not the same thing for an unbeareable amount of time.

Here is my suggestion for long songs.

When there is a long song (>10min) playing, it's length is determined by amount of requests in queue.

For example, the song length is normal when there are less than 5 songs in queue, but once it goes over that they start reducing the current song's playtime by ~8% each. So a 50min song with 7 in queue after it would fade to next song in 42min etc.

I have a better idea. How about we have a button that you can click on, and, if enough people click on it, say, 5 or so, then the song gets skipped. If it doesn't get skipped, it means some people want to listen to it (possibly because they enjoy it). And if you don't want to listen to it, you mute it or listen to your own music and take it easy.

It's perfect. Starting working on it now, Pyonta-kun, before I request some Boris.

What if people don't have personal libraries, or any musical knowledge whatsoever? The main reason I listen to the radio is because I don't have jack shit on my PC and am not very literate on the music subject. I can't turn it off to listen to something on my PC. Heck, I can't go to youtube to search for something I don't know about. I just want to listen to the radio and go with the flow. And the ten minute plus songs hold that up.

Well, we're currently on...the 3rd revision? When Pyonta first made the station he was just using some Japanese Foobar plugin to run it, and it didn't do very well. He eventually moved onto SAM Broadcaster which gave him more freedom to code stuff from scratch. He's too modest to think he's done much since I do most of the moderation and maintenance but it's been quite a bit of work invested into the station. Pyonta still makes updates every now and then too, so development isn't fully done either. Currently he's almost done with a report script. If all goes well it may be possible for users to retag their own uploads if there's an error with the tags.

Pyonta would have to go through giving you all the technical details of how he got the station up though, if you're looking for that kind of information.

The "problem" with the queue (if you really want to call it that) is that the same three or four people have been a little too request happy these past couple of days. And a certain someone (you know who you are) requesting the same songs every day. Also, when the queue is long, you can't help but join in yourself to see how long you can make it (I've been a victim of this many times).

Perhaps, if anyone thinks it's worth it, the maximum number of songs in the queue per IP address can be set to some number, say, four or five.

Just a thought.

My suggestion is to keep the 2 songs per 10 minutes in place, but in addition to set it so that only 3 song requests from one IP can be in the queue at a time. This way, the same one or two users can't keep stacking on their own requests onto the end once the 10 minute limit is up endlessly, but at the same won't feel restricted as the 3rd song request frees up once the 10 minutes is up.

Shit I've got a 1tb hitachi deathstar that I wouldn't mind sending to germany if I could get along with the staff for 10 min.

Also have a 80gb WD and an external case for it, since someone doesn't have sata expansion cards laying around.

I upload maybe one song a month at best. I was going to tell pyonta to delete all of the non tagged stuff if I sent him a drive.

The only time I upload stuff is if I think it's going to be something that you guys would actually enjoy that isn't what normally gets played. It's not like I'm uploading shit I made.

>> No.7204088

>>7203473
Sometimes the box has trouble properly accepting/reading/displaying song tags, and sometimes the auto-conversion script messes up with certain characters and wipes the tags.

All sorts of things can and have happened to the tags of uploaded songs. I doubt most users would simply have a bunch of random music files that aren't inherently tagged from where they downloaded them from.

Most songs are tagged, therefore we're not talking about most uploaders. I wish I doubted this for the rest, but I don't.
