I agree that is no longer is the radioactive nightmare it was in 1986. However, risking fucking up your body with cancer for the mentality of "Hurrr durr, it's my hometown!" is just as stupid as assuming Fukushima will be a Chernobyl type disaster.

My ex was Russian and his mom was living in the 70 miles from northwest of Chernobyl and 4 months pregnant with him at the time of the disaster. She was fine, but he's had some pretty serious heart problems (issues with arrhythmia, enlarged heart, holes etc.) There was no history in his family of these cardiac issues; two different doctors have suggested this could be the result of exposure to radiation in vitro. His uncle was also living in Pripyat during and after the meltdown. He was treated for several different cancers related to high exposure to radiation. He recently died of a raging case of intestinal cancer. The story is the same for plenty of Ukrainian, Belorussian, former Soviet immigrants. Intense shit.
