Anyone else disappointed by the shittiness of the 2011 Vocaloid concert compared to the 2010 one?

Lat Miku?

Having just minutes ago finished watching the 2011 concert, I can't fully agree with you. I preferred the 2010 one, but each had their merits. The choreography was better in the '11 concert, as were the facial expressions and the model resolution. On the other hand, the '10 concert had the immersion factor, which is pretty huge, and in my opinion a better set list. The '11 concert also had an annoying habit of cutting most songs short as well as the bizarre intermission.

this one.

i can think of about 2-4 other models i like far better than their model as well(XS miku and diva-ish miku in particular). i don't know about the body, but the head/face of the model used in sega's stuff/these concerts is near the quality of the default MMD miku(animasa miku) with a shader applied to it. it's the same one they use in dreamy theater.

If they used that they would probably be accused of pedophilia.

2010 is better in most aspects. Except that part in 2010 when they changed to a different Miku model.

2011, the screen was awful, not really as immersive as the transparent screen from before. It looked like just one big TV. The ads, the human singer, the break. Those were crap. Also 2010 Luka looked better.

On the other hand, Rin didn't look like a robot zombie doll and was actually cute in Kokoro. And the expressions/movement did seem improved in 2011.

The hair is a BILLION times better animated.

Maybe next year they'll combine this animation with the old projection method and better models... Yeah, I'll just hope for that.

What model did they change to?

I seem to remember information/pictures of a concert held earlier this year in which the Lat model appeared, but I never heard anything about it on /jp/. I thought it was weird that I would see pictures of a concert-looking thing but nothing here, but I didn't look much into it.

I don't think either really had Luka down right, but I agree that 2010 did her better.

You're definitely right about Rin too, she was scary in 2010 but I liked her in 2011.

>> No.7083735

I feel kind of bad for the musicians performing because most of the people there probably don't give a shit about them.

>> No.7083741

Yes, Rin looked like shit last year. She seems to look better this year though.

I haven't seen 2011 concert yet, I felt turned off by the non-transparent screen, but I will surely watch it later either way.

2011 Luka is SHIT, in my opinion. She looks so... flat.

in 2010 a lot of artists who actually made the songs that were played had guest appearances, lots of people cared about them. And when the fixed members introduced themselves they even gave the last spot to Miku, it showed they were awesome people who cared.
2011 had people who thought they were the main attraction and Miku was just a glorified PV on screen.

And the drummer in the 2010 one was SO much better.

Not necessarily in technical skill, but he was SO into it and obviously enjoying it, whereas the ponytailed hippy in the 2011 can go die (and get a real job).

>> No.7083791

Ideally for next year Sega would be at the reins again instead of 5pb. A glass screen would be used, and Internet Co would be invited to join up so Gumi can make an appearance.

Nah, that's a sweeping generalization, Anonymous.

The 2010 concert was really cool, whether Miku's voice makes you want to stab your brain through your eyes with screwdrivers or not. The new one was terrible. 5pb took over and really screwed the pooch.

>> No.7084989

I liked both, really, but my heart was on fire during last year's concert. It just didn't really happen save for a few spots this time around.

I get that Latshiki Miku is popular and all, but I don't like it. The model has a really flat face that looks awkward from anywhere but the front, and she looks far too young, like a 12-year old Miku. It's great for indy factor, but as far as commercial portrayal goes, I think Miku should still have a charm that can have some maturity behind it, which Latshiki can't convey properly, in my opinion. The modified Diva model with the cropped twintails that was used in the highest-rated entry of the 6th MMD Cup is, if I were marketing, a model that is closer to being "everyone's Miku Hatsune".

>> No.7085054

May be it is because the last years they was promoting the project diva 2, so they decided to make it the better possible.

Well, as a minor nitpick the Lat's face looks fine from other angles as well(such as the side). It was designed to imitate 2d art and does so very well at the angles it is good at.

But unfortunately, purely from a marketing standpoint of today's market and public mindset I have to agree with you. The Lat model most definitely has angles it is very, very bad at(mid-extreme bottom and top and most closeups), for example. It does also look very young. Most importantly, trying to produce something that looks as close to reality as possible is the way to go to attract the public; people interested in things that look like 2d art are actually quite a niche, it's just that that niche is highly represented by the population of Nicovideo(which partially explains the model's popularity).

But keep in mind that it's not a professionally made model. A professional should be able to take the model's concept improve its performance(and make it look older), so arguing the model's current appearance is really not valid. And while the 2d look is not the majority favorite, I don't really know if that means that the preferences of the current Miku fanbase should be betrayed(but I think it is most likely hopeless to get most people to understand the appeal of 2d over 3d by human nature, so maybe it is the best choice).

In fact, I have always thought Luka would be a better marketing choice for Western audiences, but that's not really possible.

>> No.7087186

>things that look like 2d art are actually quite a niche
and by that I mean "manga art."

But thinking again, even considering that point, Miku is almost undoubtedly going to be a niche interest until her voice improves no matter the approach used. In order for her to be truly popular she needs to easily be able to match real singers in more than just electronica-related genres. Perhaps the English databank will help with this. When is it even scheduled to be released?
