I know this'll probably be looked over as trollin' but thought I'd post it...
-I'm probably biggest closet fangirl ever
-as in fangirl, I don't mean Boy love, I mean I love watching shows with imouto, magical girls, mecha, slice of life...

Gomenasai OP, my name is Ken-Sama.

I'm a 36 year old American Otaku. I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, God Hand)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer for Square Enix!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Easy one is to bring manga to school with you, but here's the rub; they're probably going to mostly be into shonen stuff as opposed to what you're reading. You might get approached anyways. Back in high school I hung out with a girl who was into this stuff, but it just happened because we met in class.

I remembered something, though. It wasn't around when I was in high school, but these days there's an anime club that gathers once a month around here. You might look around where you live to see if there's one.

I'm sure stuff has changed -- the last time i was in a high school setting was in early 2004, and i had only met one person who was also into anime, vn's, and such. He was nothing like me, though. While i attempted to blend with the everyone else, he proudly flaunted his love for his hobbies. Hey OP, read the thread and I'll try to help out:
To meet guys with similar interests, just bring stuff to them that you could talk to them about. Generally, if they are familer with anime or manga, just having a manga at all will get their attention. Once you establish that you both at least like anime/manga, try to talk to them about some shows. I know for my generation a good topic was how great Toonami was compared to now, but I'm sure there's something comparable you could do.

If jocks are actually hitting on you then you're going to have to try a bit harder to actually prove that you like anime/manga. It's my opinion the guy's who would be the coolest with accepting the older brother complex thing would be the guys who think they couldn't get a girl at all, much less one that is getting hit on by jocks. So yeah, talk to them about what they like talk about what you like. If thats too much, talk about a series you both know about, I remember how my friends could go on for a bit about Tsubasa.

Uh, yeah. The thing to remember about fishing for otaku is that you're going to get all kinds. I used to run an anime club, and sure, while we had four or five guys who would never shut up about Sora or Sauske, there were guys who had memorized all the mechs from Gundam, played Tohou, and watched Zetsubou. Just take your time trying to figure out who you want to go out with, if you don't want to make them your boyfriend, at least you may gain a friend, or on the other end, grant them a friend.

Heh, yeah I've been trying to work out con contacts as well. Well it depends on what your doing at the con but generally the same tactic should generally work. Start a conversation about the given context. So, for example, lets say your at a panel, people usually talk a bit there and mutter about what should be said so you can hop right into a conversation. I remember there was an Umineko panel at a con and I was about to just head out because the panel moderators couldn't run it at all, but when people were starting to go through theories again, I hopped in.

Meeting people at panels is probably the easiest way to go because thats partly what there for, talking about something.

You could also strike up a conversation in the dealers room about what someone is buying (IE, "Thats a great Miku figure, its really cute"), but then you risk the possibility that they are in a rush and just want to buy and go.

The other chance that I could think of would be if they are cosplaying, then you know they probably like the series a bit and would be able to talk about it a bit.

If your shy around people, just focus on talking about something you like and the words should come fairly easily. The hardest part is starting the conversation, but I think these three ways are fairly doable.

The jist of it is, panels are places you can talk to be about related matters. If not that, try talking to people who are cosplaying something you like, and if not that, try talking at the dealers room. This is in order of easy of entry to conversation.
