Why not get a kigurumi and stuff it to make a life-size huggable doll? If you put some pvc pipe inside and the joints are wired-together UNglued fittings, it can then move somewhat and retain its position.

This would be vastly superior to a dakimakuri although it would cost more. But since a kigurumi is life-size, you can actually buy different clothes for it and dress it as you want.

Just... trust me. Don't do it.

I went to a con in a kigurumi costume once. The first 20 minutes was heavenly - people smiled, laughed, and took pictures with me. I felt as if I had made many friends just by the act of being present. I felt as if I was cute, even though I felt fat when I was in the suit. I even had some 'followers' that came with me, making a little mobile party. I had gifts... I was on top of the world.

Thirty minutes later, I can't stand the costume. The atmosphere of the con mixed with some clothing malfunctions (my underwear got tied up and was giving me a wedgie every step) - remember how I had that little parade that was following me, that I so adored? I couldn't escape it. I couldn't get away from it. So, annoyed at the suit, I took it off partway so I could take a little break.

I have never seen a 360 in attitude before in my life. The moment they saw my face, everyone snapped. I was bombarded with every insult imaginable and kicked by someone. It wasn't a soft kick either - someone put all their force into it and I got knocked to the ground for half a minute before I could eventually crawl up again. That 'loving crowd' took all the gifts away and dispersed once the 'scene' grew too big - aka people were breaking it up because a violent situation was about to arise.

Don't do it. It's not worth it. You will NEVER be able to experience any pleasant feelings with other human beings ever again in your lifetime.

I have seen it done at last years Otakon. Worked at the photo suite and talked to the gentleman in the picture for a while as he waited. He got asked to take a lot of pictures and I know there were two other kigurumi wandering around but they didn't talk at all I think they had someone with them who arranged things with other con goers.

to the exact opposite of this guys story, i've actually had people become friendlier whenever i'd end up demasking. it's extremely rare for me, but i get worn out having the mask on for long periods, so on occasion i'll find a little corner semi-out of view and demask there for a little break. or at some larger panels where it's just easier to see with the mask off i'll demask. for many people, i think it makes you seem more....normal...if they can see your face. and i've had quite a few people freak out initially when they realized i wasn't actually a girl...and then were cool with me

It helps if you're not a fatty num nums like most western kigs are, with their horribly misshapen masks and cheap hadatai and costumes etc. People are more likely to get freaked out by those than a well-done kig. So do yourself a favor, and if you're not really gonna fool anyone, don't even try... please. You're only going to make it worse for everyone else

It's really a lot fun for me in kig. The majority of the compliments I get are positive. Some will absolutely flatter you. The worst I have gotten is, that's kind of creepy. You wave at them, and they smile. A lot of people just stares as you walk by, basically checking you out.. Pretty funny if you stare at them back. Most will smile back, knowing they got caught.
A few people want hugs. They generally ask the handlers first though. Hugs are great.

Even though I hate cons and the thought of being around people, it's feels kig would make it a lot easier to go out (cons being pretty much the only acceptable place) and have me try to enjoy something.

i was actually waiting on my girlfriend to go to the bathroom while we were walking around a shopping center attached to the convention center with my mask off(this was on day 3, we had actually already signed out of our hotel room and i just wanted to spend all the way to closing ceremonies in kigurumi), and a family that wasn't even there for the convention came up and asked me what was going on (since their children like anime) and acted like i was just dressed completely normal.

i also had one person approach me after closing ceremonies asking about the mask, and saying she recognized me from the year before, i took off my mask to talk to her (had the mask off the whole closing ceremonies anyways so i could see), and i literally saw her jaw drop open, then see her register that she shouldn't have her mouth open but she still couldn't quite close it all the way, but she didn't freak out and stayed friendly while we were talking. was probably more amazed at how well i pull off playing a girl. i've actually noticed that girls seem more easily convinced that you're a girl rather than guys, probably because guys are more paranoid, but i've also had bigger freakouts from girls than i have guys.

I'm considering doing either Peach, Samus, or Kneesocks.

I think Peach has the best default outfit and I guess either Peach or Samus could be used with different wigs anyways. Kneesocks I would like because I enjoyed the character but it'd be a single use mask.

I'm strongly leaning towards Peach because she's always been my favourite Nintendo girl for as long as I can remember.

Also I have noticed like no Kigs do game characters. I *think* I've seen one Peach before but I'm not sure.

You could always stuff the kigurumi suit and mask and then use it as a life size huggable and dressable doll. You would have to build a simple PVC pipe skeleton for it but that is cheap to do. It would be more real than a dakimakura. You can also use properly bagged and secured sandbags inside; if you prefer a more malleable filling, dry rice is cheap when you buy it in those huge bags at a warehouse shopping club such as sam's club. You'd probably buy a bunch of freezer strength ziploc bags from a warehouse club anyways.
